Ok so I'm redoing the suspension next month.


I need a couple of things from you guys, based on what I'm looking for.

-Things to replace under the car (bushings, etc.)
-New shocks/springs.

Anything else (regular maintenance type stuff dealing with the suspension)

I have 1000$ to spend. My mechanic is doing the shocks/springs (all 4), for 100$ labor. The bushings would be like 20$ each or something (but I guarantee I could get most anything done underneath for another 100$).. That leaves me around 700$ for parts.

He also gets most import parts wholesale (He mentioned bilstein, tokico, etc...) Sp prices will most likely be cheaper than online (But links are still helpful for part numbers.)

This includes any bushings + the shocks and springs + anything else beneficial.


I'd like - decent handling, better than stock of course.

One big problem I foresee is my tire size, 13in still. And it's an LX, so no rear sway bar. So lowering prob. isn't a great idea unless its around 1 inch or less

Get new 555 branded rear control arms from napa or online
new moog lower control arms bushings
new tie rod ends. car will ride like you want and you dont even have to lower.

Still have funds, get the upgraded sway bars from tire rack

I still need some shocks, mine are defiantly bad.

Also it's an automatic, do the energy suspension bushings matter?


I'm having a hard time looking these parts up (with prices..)

But to me it seems after all the bushings and tie rod ends, I shouldn't of spent more than 200$.

Make sure you get rear trailing arm bushings. Other than that you need quite a list

Front:
LCA to Chassis Bushings
LCA to Shock Mount Bushings
Radius Rod Bushings
Lower Ball Joint
Upper Control Arms (with bushings and Ball joints)
Inner and Outer tie rod ends

Rear:
Upper control arm (with bushings and balljoints included)
Lower control arm bushings (4 per side)
Lower Ball joints
Rear Trailing arm bushings

Since the spindles have to come off the front and the hubs off the rear, you might as well do hub bearings if not done recently. As for Shocks/Springs, unless you can find some Konis, go with Bilstein HD's and H&R springs. They will lower you a bit but still provide you with a nice ride. Be sure you get new shock bushings to install these with. I made the mistake of using my old ones and they are squeaking like friggin hell now.

All in all, this will get you REALLY close to the $1000 mark, and thats if you get a great deal on labor. If not, spring for the ST sway bar set, grab the brackets for the rear from the junkyard.

There are a good number of bushings under our car. Certainly more than 10. All of your ball joints should probably be replaced, too.

For the $300 you're spending on labor, I can do just about all of the suspension bushings in parts. If you'd be up for the drive down here and maybe a weekend night at my place, we could get it done cheaper and better than a shop. Even alignments aren't all that hard to do.

I wish but I have a 1 year old and I have to stay near home to help with him lol..

I'm fine with the prices sorta, since coming from where I live to you would cost me like 100-200$ + the worry of my car since it's at 263,xxx miles.

But for the sake of argument and my wallet, how much do you think it would be for your help? Just curious.

Alrighty I've found so much information about shocks its hard to handle.

I guess Bilstein and H&R aren't good pals, bouncy ride unless revalved..

So unless I get a couple of good reviews I'll not be lowering it the 1.5 inches and staying with stock springs.



So maybe I'll consider something else.

How about

-Bilstein + stock springs.
-Replace virtually all bushings with poly or aftermarket rubber
-Upgrade sway bar(s)

-maybe some coilovers? Like weapon r or something combined with the bilstein.


Will this provide me above average handling with a nice ride?

I'm thinking of doing just the worst bushings and all shocks, and keeping my springs for a non-bouncy ride.

Maybe just grab the sway bar kit for a bit better handling.

im about to do mine as well.

i was going to do tokicos for ~50 each,but changed to gr2 casue theyre better functioning shocks in my opinion...same price

for the springs i want the stock height for suspension function, 8 or 9 inch linear springs.

K so I decided to get the worst of the bushings done + other things.

My mechanic said that the following need replaced.

- Steering rack (lol @ its terrible condition) $240 w/ core charge (includes inner and outer tie rods with price)
- Sway bar bushings + end links - no price yet
- Rear upper control arm left/right with bushings+upper ball joints - $43/each
- Front upper control arms w/ bushings - $18 Left $23 Right
- Radius arm bushings (Not sure if it was each or for both) - 33$
- Shock hat bushings - 12$ each, house brand (Should I go Honda, I don't want squeaks)


-Timing belt including belt + oil pan gasket + crank seals, etc. 200-250$ (labor+parts)
-New shocks - 108$ each (Bilstein) + 100$ install all 4. Using stock springs


Most of the parts are Moog.

Guess that should be good eh? Guess I'll grab an LX-i swaybar one day for the back since right now my total cost is.....

1600$ (Including the 400$ Weber)

Well I deliver pizza, so the Bilstein will keep me occupied for the next year.

Maybe next year I can get Ksports, that and a full engine rebuild...

Those and a paint job and woo doggy, I'll be set.

If you're doing Bilsteins, don't worry about K-Sports, as they're not as good as revalved Bilsteins. Add some decent sleeve coilovers and your setup will be better than any K-Sport setup.

Is it the same for the accord?

Almost two years later and what have you got done so far?
You got a different car now right?
I just went thru my suspension, read all the susPension threads a dozn times and came to this conclusion: if you want lowering save up for the adjustable D'2's or k sports, if you just want upgrades, cut your stock springs 1-2 coils and use kyb shocks..: all new urethane bushings, ball joints, Vigor rear bar, lxi front bar and be done and have money and patience left for other things.lOl

89 lxi 5 speed.

Already did cpntrol arms and tokicos with sprint springs.

Just replacing odds and ends now
