Question 86 EFI vs. 88 Carb Exhaust Mani Differences?

I Was Just Sitting Here Thinking, So Awhile Back, When I Rebuilt My 86' A20A3, I Noticed A Large Crack In My Exhaust Manifold. The Only Junkyard Mani I Could Source Was From An 88' A20A1. I Know The 86-87 Are Alittle Different From The 88-89 Which Is What Got Me Wondering This. Seems Kinda Like A Dumb Question, But No Hurt In Asking When The Search Button Fails.

Other Than The O2 Sensor Bungs Located Opposite Another, And The Different EGR etc. Hole Sizes + Places, But Is There Any Difference In With ID, Size etc. Anything Really Different At All?

I might be wrong, but think the EGR are the same on all of them. The thing is the A20A3 efi manifolds have dual downpipe runners, a lot better breathing design, where as the A20A1 is single. Only one 02 sensor on A1, as well. The years I think do not matter as much as the engine being efi or carbed. You can use a efi manifold on a carbed car but not sure if you would want to do visa versa... from performance aspect anyways.

1986-1987 fuel-injected cars have single runners, 1988-1989 fuel-injected have dual (update/revision, gives 10 more horsepower).

    All carbureted engines are single.

Technically, the only difference between an 86-87 EFI manifold and an 86-89 carb manifold is the Air Suction pipe fitting (in the US at least)

So I'm Practically Using The Same Mani, With An Exception To The Carbs Air Suction Hole...Which I Happily Filled With 7014 Stick Weld...lol.

So The Huge Difference Between The 2 Versions Of The A20 Is Pretty Much Just The Header Adding The Power For The Most Part?

I thought it changed from 4-1 to 4-2-1?

Re: 86 EFI vs. 88 Carb Exhaust Mani Differences?

Yes the 88-89 exhaust manifolds are a slight improvement over the Carb/older efi version due to 4-2-1 design vs 4-1 design. I would be curious if anyone has dynoed the difference between the 88-89 efi manifold and a header?
