I just pulled the heat shield out, i need to do a little metal work for the pipe hanger, looks pretty good for being a quarter century old. While it's out i'll clean it up and paint it with some heat paint.

took a picture of some of my nice rebuilt shifter stuff while it was out.

the exhaust tip is finally hanging on it's own, the piping is all in, except some short sections of straight pipe. heat shield is back in.

doing some polishing testing, everyone says to use ajax for the initial polish on raw stainless, then use polishing compound from there, I need a buffer wheel for the drill, it's too hard to use the bench buffer on the big pieces

Good work man, that's a nice fabbed up system you got there. It will be loud but it's well done.

I hope to do the same for mine as the shop that did it sucked!

I may be sick but this keeps me from going nuts, the kit you want from energy suspension is part number 16.1101R it's a civic kit, it will have both the bushiing that supports the shifter and the torque rod bushing. both fit perfectly. here's the thread on the shifter and it's rebuild https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthrea...hlight=shifter

Looks first rate man. One question though, why are you supporting the pipe from the heat shield?

it was a convenient place to put a pipe hanger, it's not just supported there, it's supported at the outlet, as well as the headers are bolted to the engine, there is also my aluminum hanger on the muffler, it normally gets a 4 inch hose clamp around it, but I couldn't find the clamp, it's just sitting on top of the clamp is all. the heatshield is actually pretty strong with a little metal welded on it, the weight of that pipe is right off of the double bolts in the middle of the heat shield, right behind it.

well it has a good support at the back of the engine, just like the factory pipes, then it's supported in the middle at the muffler, and at the back at the outlets, but I needed something towards the back, the one off of the heat shield was the best place to put it, whats interesting is the aluminum bracket for the muffler, used to be at the back for the cherry bomb, without a rear outlet exhaust, I didn't need it, by turning it around facing the other way, and flipped over, it lined up perfectly with the muffler in the middle, and hung off of the old converter supports. with a big band clamp around it and the muffler it will hold it very securely. the supports of the outlets on the sides are two stainless rod ends back to back. i'll pull the tips off and mask and repaint the black part where the paint was ground off for welding.

    Re: new s&s header

This is the first part of my new muffler, this is the center tube, this is perforated stainless mesh, I'm going to make it like a bike muffler, where the insides can be removed to replace packing if needed. The center core will be wapped with stainless packing first, then ceramic wool, one end gets welded through one end cap, the other end gets a flare, then slides into a pipe through the other end cap, inside of the tube. by using screws in the ends of the tubes, i can take the core out. I have to get some stainless 3 inch tube before I can do much else

This is the start of the end caps, I had to bore this out to 2 inches first, then i'll cut the steps that slide into the tube, then split it into two pieces, this is the only real way to turn it, i can turn one step, then clamp the jaws on that step and cut the other end. then split it.

    Re: new s&s header

ok the muffler is nearly done, I cut a piece of three inch tube to put it together to see how it would look, it will look just like this but with a stainless muffler tube,

one side of the flanges done, this will be machined on both sides and split in half, into two parts

    splitting the two parts

    cut off

Off the hook! I'm excited to see this one. Are these mufflers something you can do on the side and sell on eBay?

I thought about it, but there is way too much into each one to make it worth doing, I do know someone who will make a full stainless muffler to specs, he's in Canada, but I really don't have the setup or resources to do this right now, I wanted to make a muffler that will last and I don't have to worry about ever again, I also needed a narrow case muffler, and no one made one, the standard 4 inch round muffler was rubbing on the heat shield slightly. All I need is to get my stainless packing and my 3 inch stainless tube and I can finish it all up, you roll the center tube tightly in the packing and stuff it down in the outer case, put the other end on, and weld it up

sorry if i haven't been on in forever,no computer, the muffler is done, the packing came in a few days ago, and I finally got it done. I want to send out a word of thanks to those who helped me weld it, Bobby Brock started on it, then got diagnosed with stage four cancer, most of the welding was done by Melody Cooper, and David Maule helped me weld the pipe pieces on, I have clearer pictures, but they are on my camera which isn't here at the moment.

    stainless tube clamped to tack

    tube tacked

    finish welded
