    Redoing door hinges

Any tips to this. I scored a new set from Westside Honda just on luck they had a new set of drivers side hinges. Mine are shot. Never took the door of before.

you are going to need some way to hold the door off the ground since the wiring loom dosnt unplug in the door jam.
all you really have to do is match up the new hinges to the witness marks left on the doors and pillars by the old hinges.
    its pretty easy

Id think you have to take the fender off right? I didn't think about the wire loom thanks that's a good one.

Mark the outline of the old hinges with a pencil before removing them.

    absolutely

'Also when working with the door afterwards, take out the striker in the jam so you can fit the door properly without dealing with the latch. Then adjust the striker to fit the latch after the door fits the door opening area properly.

And.. make sure the hinge could not be fixed by just replacing the bushings and pin. Welding up the hole and redrilling works sometimes too.

    Re: Redoing door hinges

honda shows the entire hinges but no pins available, even though they clearly come out, I was looking into this myself, but never got around to it yet, I was thinking a set of hinges could be modified with fox body mustang pins and bushings, they are close enough to ream out the holes in the Honda hinges to install the bushings, the pins will have to be shortened though. the mustang pin and bushings kits are very easy to find and cheap. Mustangs suffer from the same issue as the hatch doors do.

Came out pretty good. I ended up pulling back the fender to get at the bolts to adjust the door out. The ones that go to the pillar I couldn't get to with the hinges bolted to the door. I balanced it on my floor jack and used an old file cabinet to hold it upright when it was loose.

Got lucky on hinges someone had ordered them and never picked them up. I didn't look alot but I don't think the pins are available separately.

Little bit of rust on the back of the old ones. I cleaned this up and repainted back inside there and cleaned out a pound of dirt caught up inside the lower part of the fender.

Sorry about the pics only as links. Imageshack has continued to find a way to make it more and more difficult to post a picture. I got to head out or Id work on it somemore.

Thats a great point cuz I am thinking they are in short supply. But the dealer told me he has key blanks in stock so I can get a few new ones made up up. They were not available for quite a while.

Can you still get door hinges from the dealer? What did them run Oldblue if I can ask? I need to replace my driver side door hinge too. It sags about an inch after I open the door.

Now that you have new hinges keep in mind that the best way to make them last is to lube them periodically.

    Re: Redoing door hinges

I have been using a product called "Super Lube." It's basically a general purpose teflon containing lubricant. You can also use white spray grease, garage door lube spray, etc. Honestly, I used to use motor oil on my old Pontiac. It was a two-door model with huge heavy doors. As long as you don't leave the hinges without lubrication they should last you 100 years.
