    Question Choke issue. Pictures.

I've been doing my research. That said, everything I know about carbs I've learned over the past few days. It's giving me a headache.

I've been struggling with this issue for some time. I start the car, having to manually keep up the RPM's for a bit to keep it from stalling. Afterwards, it'll idle around 2000-2500RPM, sometimes going down to 1500RPM after anywhere between 2-15 minutes, sometimes not at all. I pulled of the air cleaner, and someone had tied some wire to keep the choke from going below a certain point, which also wouldn't allow the choke plate to fully close (about where I'm holding it):

I removed the wire and here's where it sits now:

And, well now it wants to rev away at idle, up to 3000RPM, even 4000RPM. I checked my vacuum pressure. 17". Now according to this thread (https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48569) I've got late ignition timing. But besides that, I'm thinking that my choke diaphragm is no good. What do ya guys figure?

btw It also diesels on after I shut it down unless it's settled down to idling at 1500RPM, which I often have to rev it right up to 4000RPM to get it to do (I HATE to keep doing this).

Download the manual for your car, link is reference on this site.
Refer to section 12 and follow test procedures for the 'Choke Opener' and then the 'Fast Idle Unloader'.

Section 12 is for fuel injected vehicles. I don't have the "fast idle control valve" of the FI models.

Edit: I found a carbed section in the '88 manual. Thanks g.frost, I will follow these steps. Wish me well!

.....So, how'd it go? Was it the choke opener leaking, or was the leak somewhere else in the choke opener vac circuit?
