Crazy yellow wire going to starter

So, I'm not completely sure what the last person who had the car did, but there's a yellow wire connected to the starter solenoid that is going through my firewall and is connected into the back of my fusebox. When I disconnect the wire from the starter solenoid and reconnect the original black wire (with the rubber boot around it) that attaches to the main harness, I'll turn the key and all accessories work/dash lights but the car doesn't start. Could they have bypassed this because of a clutch switch issue? With the yellow wire normally connected, the car starts in gear, but I'm fairly sure it shouldn't. I know that on the clutch pedal there are two switches, one right above, and one way further up.

Yes, it sounds like someone by-passed the switch.....Check the switch and that the "bumpers" on the pedal arm are there.
