If you're getting good fuel output and good bright spark then you're probably looking at timing.

Well found a broken wire on the plug to the sensor on thermostat housing,I think it's the temp sensor.Got another plug with some wire but it won't fit, have to extra housings and the plug fits one but not the other.Did they have diff ones or what. Now change the housing or get another plug.Hope this fixes my problem.

    Re: Won't Start

I doubt it's the sensor wire. However, you should always fix what you know to be broken before looking for the next thing. You need four things to make an engine run: fuel, spark, timing and air supply. One of those is missing from your equation. If you're getting good strong spark, and good fuel pressure, then it's the timing or the air supply. You have FI, so fuel supply should be somewhere around 40 psi. You don't have a broken timing belt do you?

Well checked the belt and it's fine, did a compression test and that's good.Decided to try something,so i took a set of plugs out of a spare head, cleaned them up and put them in.Turn the key and it started, that's really weird.

That broken sensor wire may have made the engine flood on cold start up.

    Re: Won't Start

I'm having the same issue right now with my 89 Ex-i. It was running like a champ for the last month or so, and now it wont start.

What happened was I drove the car, then I turned it off, ran inside and came back out to start it. It started up and the tach shot up to 6000rpm for some reason but my engine speed wasnt revving anything near that high or even 1500rpm for that matter. Then I turned it off and tried to start it back up again, and since then it wouldnt start up at all.

I had the tow truck driver crank my car while I checked the coil for spark which I got. He then asked me to step on the throttle to clear out a possible flood which didn't do anything, but I did hear a big bang sound coming out of it and that was it, haven't heard anything since.

Once it got home, I changed out the plugs ASAP, but nothing. Not even a CEL, no burnt fuses, nothing.

Since its so late at night, I can't do anything anymore since I gotta wake up early in the morning. Anyways, tomorrow i'm gonna be going to pick n pull for a new distributor, possibly a coil, and possibly a main relay. Anyone else have any ideas as to what may be wrong?

My guess is a distributor issue, but its hard to say, I dont smell a strong fuel smell from the tail pipe, but my sense of smell is bad to begin with. Main relay could be it, but I'd think id have it run intermittently rather then no start at all.

    Re: Won't Start

I'm guessing Dist. because you said the tach pegged out and went back. The TDC sensor prolly went bad in it or is going out. I think you can test it out. I don't think there is any that can be had to replace it.

A bad igniter will make the tach go weird.

    Re: Won't Start

Heres an update of my issue.

Went and got a new distributor from the junkyard. Before putting it in, I turned it a couple times with the engine 'on' and heard the injectors clicking away. Once installed, my car still didnt run. At all. There was a huge smell of fuel coming out the tailpipe, so it may have been flooded, but as of now, its uncertain as its raining badly outside

    Re: Won't Start

    Another update

So it turns out that the distributor shaft snapped into 2, thats why my car didnt start. Now that I know its getting fuel, its not getting spark for some reason. I cranked the car over through the starter with the car on, and saw no spark on the plug wires, or the coil lead. Now that its too dark and still raining, I cant see the multimeter anymore outside...

Found my issue, the igniter was dead on the new distributor I got, swapped in my old one and it ran like a charm again might have to stock up on them now
