    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

Head is off, I've got pics around somewhere. The head gasket had no major issues I could spot - I'm picking up the head tomorrow, then I'll slam it all back together over the weekend and do another compression test, including a leak down if warranted.

The headliner is out - it was total garbage. The sunroof is actually and entire assembly that bolts in - I'll get pics of it at some point over the weekend, then I'll be pulling that entire assembly out so I can test the electric retraction motor and everything else.

    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

Yep, I'm slow No damn time to get anything done!!

    Latest:

    New water pump + thermostat...

New alternator + upper end parts...

Head waiting patiently to go back in...

Head + gasket on, timing belt finally on! I cut the old one off, forgot I had to remove the right engine mount to put the new on one LOL

Me taking a damn break, lower timing cover is on, water pump is on, alternator is on, head is on (just needs to be torqued)

Not bad for a Saturday Should have the engine buttoned back up tomorrow!

    Tonight I'll:
    1) Finish putting the head bolts in, torque all to spec
    2) Finish installing the 'front' of the engine with new belts
    3) Hook up the electrical system

    Tomorrow will be:
    1) Grab some 1/4" and 5/8" line to finish some coolant house routing
    2) Flush (forward and back) the cooling system
    3) Fluids

Is there an easy way to drain the fuel tank in these 3Gs, short of 'punch a hole'?

    Latest pic:

Poor engine looks rough, but I should finish buttoning her up tomorrow and then I'll see if she fires for me

Anybody have a pic of where the hose from the PCV valve goes on the EFI engine? Previous owner had a water hose (yellow garden hose, I shit you not) running from the valve cover down to the side of the transmission as his ventilation system.

I'm fairly certain it'll just go up to the post-TB port on the intake manifold, but would rather check, first

Don't know if all of the 3g's are the same but mine actually has a drain plug in it.

I should have seen this sooner, I could've warned you. That Duralast water pump is absolutely worthless. I've replaced it twice now and it still makes so much noise!

Damn, it's already in. Well, it's getting a full flush and I'll make sure to keep good coolant in the car. It seemed to have a decent bearing system in it when I tested it prior to install.... Gonna hope your store has a bad batch, LOL. Otherwise, I'll go OEM.

I love how I work on things. Almost a year later I FINALLY start working on the car again....

And what do I have to show? Well, nothing right this second, I'm at work, but I'll post pics of the haul I made this week.

SEi complete rear end, B20A complete engine, SEi cupholders / armrest and misc other parts... yeah, it's a start

    Pics!

    Rear SEi Assembly:

Back of the Avalanche filled with B20A lol

    Misc parts:

Latest (yesterday) is everything is hooked up, drained the old gas out of the tank.

Next will be fresh gas + freshly charged battery, see if the fuel pump (hopefully) still works!

Fuel pump = dead. Jumped the Main Relay, verified +12 at the pump, pump doesn't respond.

Got a cheap $25 ebay (new) Fuel pump + strainer on the way, going to see if I can bring her back to life.

Already found out that I definitely will be doing some electrical work. PO mangled quite a bit of wiring Brake lights stay on, for example - even with the key off!

Brake lights should always work whether the key is in any position. Have you tried looking at the switch?

Not yet, that's on my agenda. You're saying the brake lights should still light up, even with the key outside of the vehicle?

Fuel pump should be going in on Monday!

    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

Yep. A couple of weeks ago me and a buddy were picking up somebody, after a while we got out of the car to get some ice cream, as I was walking back to the car I noticed my brake lights were ON. So I started looking under the dash and found that the rubber piece the pushes on the brake switch was missing and since we where in a hurry I just ended up putting a screw where the rubber piece is suppose to go. You could also have a mis-adjusted switch. Sorry for blabbering! lol

    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

That's great information! I may actually move that circuit to an ignition-only. But I bet when i check the wiring harness, I'll find the brake lights are involved with the hazard circuit, which clearly needs 12v constant.

I'll dig out my manuals and see what I find out. Looking forward to installing the fuel pump on Monday, though! Hope to finally get her to fire up.

    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

the brake lights should only turn on when you press the pedel lol (good to leave it that way if your car stalls out or something you still want the lights on ) but if there staying on like when your not pushing the pedel down then its the switch under the dash on the pedel arm. little piece of rubber breaks off and they dont off

Fat fives procured. The tires aren't quite as nice as the guy made 'em out, but hey, it's better than steelies!

Pics and hopefully running video tomorrow.

    Got an early start!

    Fat Fives installed:

    Unfortunately, I found this

So what does this mean? Well, obviously I'll have some body work to do in the future! For right now, I just need to get her running. I might fiberglass it over until I get a chance to do it right, though.

    Re: Finally, I'm BACK in a 3G!!

Fuel pump pressurizes. After charging the battery, spin her over... no run.

Ok, check spark again - good, strong spark. Pop the service bolt on the fuel filter, and I've got fuel pressure.

So next will be a) verifying correct fuel pressure and b) noid lights on the fuel injectors.

If I have good fuel pressure and the noid lights confirm commanded fuel from the ECU, then I'm looking at sending the injectors off to have them cleaned!
