Why does my lx-i top out at 90MPH??

It has 122k on it and is tuned up with stock plugs, wires, etc... I was on the interstate late at night in the country and I could NOT get it past about 93 MPH!!! It did not have a miss and runs fine otherwise. Does not drip or burn oil. It just wouldn't get past about 90, even if I sat on the gas... What would make it run perfect to 90, then it just won't go past that??

to reset the ecu in most cars you can take off the ground wire from the battery and then hold your brake down for about 5 seconds (to pull all the juice that could be left in anything that acts as a capacitor) then put the battery cable back on.... I'm not quite sure that this is your problem though.... but its allways a chance this could cure it...... hope this helps you in the lest bit....

    Just take out the fuse.
That way you don't have to reset everything.

It's an auto trans. and that was just rebuilt by a GOOD shop. There are no known problems and the tach sits at 5K at 90MPH, so there's some left. And I got a damn ticket for doing 90 while I was trying to figure it out. It just hits a wall, but it used a lot of fuel when I was trying to get it past 90. Hmm...

some cars are just factory ringers, i have well warmed over a20 w/ a five speed and it will only go 105mph. it can get there fairly quick though. do a compression test and also check for a weak cylinder.

before my tranny started slipping (i got an auto) i was able to hit 115 with my timing way off, and in need of a tune up badly

but, i'd say reset your ecu, like others have mentioned, check and make sure your fuel delivery system is working properly
