This is my '89 LXi Sedan, Rhonda. She is in good mechanical condition, and the interior just needs a bit of work. The body, on the other hand, is in rough shape. It has a few dings, but rust is the main problem. Below are pictures of the problems with her body.
The question:
What should I do with her? I definitly want a 3gee, but there's not many in good condition in this area.

I would say find a new shell that is rust free. Maybe one with a dead motor or something that you can get for cheap, and swap all your good stuff into it. That body will be a nightmare to repair unless you are super hardcore.
The fenders are just aestetic. What are the undeside, or rocker panels like?
The key points: Front bumper mounts, rear bumper mounts, the floor, the rocker panels, the inside of the trunk, the front wheel-wells specifically around the shock towers. Also, the spot where the front controll arms meet the body, even mine has rust there.. If those are solid, i'd fix the fenders and rustproof that shit. Also, have you done the gas-tank door recall?

There was no gas tank door recall, at least here in the states. All we got was the front seat belt latches. Also, that car isn't bad except for the rust. Everything else can be fixed easily and with little time, but the rust cannot, so I agree with what 2ndGenGuy says.
it was for the gas filler pipe... they would rust out.
it's a metal piece that is supposed to strengthen the area around the filler neck, it was very much here in the states, even my car had one, although no rust, i ended up removing it, as it caused problems with the gas door closing. it looks like it was supposed to fit BEHIND the rusted out area, maby weld in, but Honda somehow got away with bolting it in from the front, probably so they didn't have to remove the tank for welding, when it's fit from the front, it changes the geometry of the door hinge, and the door doesn't work quite right. If I had a rusted out gas filler area like you do, I would drop the tank, cut off most of the area and weld in the recall part, it's made of heavy gauge steel and would make a permanent repair

That's hella weird because I've checked into recalls for both 1988's and 1989's and this has never come up.
Also: Why does everyone name their Honda "Rhonda"? haha
