brake light scraping noise

Hi
the brake light came on in my car a few weeks ago and just recently there's a scraping noise when I drive the car. It stops when I brake and although I'm sitting in the driver seat, it sounds like it's mostly coming from the driver front brake. At first the light would turn off every other day but now it's on solid. I changed the front brake pads about a year ago. Do you guys know what it could be?

You have to get in there and check things out. Easiest explanation is that you need new pads and you're low on fluid, but it could be something a lot worse. Just go check it out.

I think I found what the problem is... Is this something I can fix? I would think all I need to do is replace that rubber cover and I should be good to go. Any tips?

Don't think it has anything to do with the brake light illuminating...but, that's an easy fix...Go to the local autopart store or ebay and pickup a CV shaft boot, make sure its the outer boot tho...also make sure the boot kit includes the clamps and packing grease. Then is off to the next problem..

your pads are low. when the pad is worn the caliper pistons are pushed out causing a low fluid level in the reservoir and the warning light. The scraping sound is caused by the metal wear indicators rubbing the rotor.

the ripped boot is another problem that should be addressed. the grease is thrown out as you drive and accelerates the wear of the joint. if the car makes clicking sounds when turning you need a new axle, if not just put a new boot on
