    transmission

    are all of the 5 speed manual transmissions the same for all third gens. my tranny got blown out doing sick nasty ken block drifts down a dirt road so now i must replace. dont want to go to a junkyard and pull a completely differant transmission from and 89 to put in an 87. know what i mean?

    Yeah, pretty much all the same. The '86-'87s have a slightly different case, but the gearing is the same and they bolt in fine. If you're doing a numbers matching restoration, the earlier ones won't work, but if you're driving like a lunatic down dirt roads, you probably don't care about that.

    so just to be clear any 3rd gen 5 spd will bolt on to my a20a3?
