My dad was cleaning his shed and was getting rid of some stuff that's been sitting there for decades.
He called me this morning, asking if I want some of the stuff. I didn't really want any of this to be honest but he insisted. He said if I didn't want it, I could just put it in the trash. He said he also found a ski rack (I already have 2..) and he would also bring this (sigh...).
When he brought the stuff, I was kind of curious about the ski rack since it was in a Honda box. Hmmm what car could this ski rack fit on?. My dad has been working for a Honda dealer sine 1977 so he collected lots of stuff over the years so it could fit anything...
Here's what the box looks like:
Hmmm blue HONDA letters on an old box. This must fit on an older Honda model. Let's open the box and find out!
When I opened the box, I found a huuuuge mouse nest!! These critters just seem to love old cardboard and car parts. I can't remember how many times I've heard people say they got a mouse nest in their car or air filter box when they put their car in storage.
Anyway, obviously, they chewed on some plastic parts and ruined the box. The ski rack however was in quite good condition except from the mouse pee. In fact, it's never been installed on a car ever!!!
After some cleaning, I found what used to be fitting instructions... there's not much left
There's no visible part number on the weather box and the instructions are now of no use... or are they
Well, this particular image caught my attention.
Could this be an Accord hatchback roof?!?!?!?
I decided to test fit the front part of the rack on my own hatch.
It fits!!!! It fits!!!! There's a small indentation in the front seam and the rack is just meant to fit there.
Now let's try the rear part. This thing is a little tricky. The roof gutter doesn't have the same width on each side. I didn't take pictures of the internal fitting but I had to grind a bit of the parts. I don't know if I'm supposed to grind these (no instructions meh..) but there was no way it would fit without a bit of grinding.
I KNOW the rack is supposed to fit the hatchback now. The kit includes a new roof molding to match the rack mount. There's no way this kit could be meant for another car. Here's what it looks like once the rear mount is installed.
You can see the two part moldings and the actual mount where the rack will bolt to.
