    Finally an Introduction

I never really introduced myself, so here goes. I'm a college student trying to make ends meet, which means my car is, drumroll please.... STOCK! Oh yes. 139K miles, bought from 2nd owner who was the 1st owner's neighbor.

Pictures are taken in such a way that you don't see the rust on the fuel filler, or the rear quarter, or the fact that the front bumper is sagging on the passenger side.

    Re: Finally an Introduction

Thanks for the positive feedback! I'm not entirely sure what my plans are at this point. At 139K miles the automatic tranny is still shifting pretty well, but I suppose I am planning for an eventual 5 speed swap. Maybe some wheels and tires, not a whole lot. I put a basic stereo in it because the stock speakers were completely rotted out. I do what I can when I can, that's about it really.

EDIT: Fix the A/C! That's one thing that is definitely on the agenda. It's still set up for R12, so I've got my work cut out for me.

    Re: Finally an Introduction

I am currently running a Denso compressor that I bought brand new from Rock Auto last year. I let my mechanic install it and it was charged with Freeze 12. We had a record-setting summer and it performed well. It did cost me $800 for parts and installation, though. If you do the work yourself you can get off a lot cheaper, but if you want the thing to last find a good used compressor or go brand new. I have never seen a reman last more than three years and I have seen quite a few. The time that I had it replaced before that was in 1999. So, it seems like the life span of these compressors is about ten years or so.

My original automatic transmission lasted for 305,000 miles so I don't think you have much to worry about there. If you are unsure of the maintenance it has received, drain and refill it a couple of times with about a week of driving in between. I always used synthetic fluid, but the remanufacturer that built my current auto says to use only Honda Z1 fluid. It's actually a little less expensive than Mobil 1 synthetic fluid these days.
