Car cutoff and now will not start.

Ok i started the car and it was idling just fine and shut off. It would not start again afterward. I started testing spark on my wires ect and all was good. So i disconnected the hose that run from the carb to the fuel filter on the fuel filter end. I tried starting while it was unhooked and it fired right up. No fuel was pumping however for about 3-5 seconds and finally it started spewing out so i cut it off. i plugged it all back together and it would start again. so i pull the hose off again and try to duplicate what happened the first time and nothing. no fuel seems to be come up, yet i saw it pumping right before that. Any ideas guys?


PS, It will fire with starting fluid.

Try checking your fuel pump,if that's ok check fuel cut off.It's in back of under dash fuse panel.

is there a way to check the pump without replacing it? the only pump i have at my disposal is the cheap airtex pump. due to the small window of time i have to fix it i dont want to jam this cheap thing in there unless i have too

it was the pump. I was scared to death to start it becasue the new pump had those bare terminal post that were submerged directly into the fuel
