    Unhappy Smoking Brakes

    89 Accord LX
    I just change my brake pads and my passenger side brakes starting smoking when I starting driving on the highway.

    Does smoke all the time?
    And why would you only replace one side pads?

    I replaced the driver and passenger side brake pads. I came home through at a maximum speed of 45 mph and it did not smoke.

    It may have been something on the new pads that burned off when u drove it.

    Possible that the caliper stuck closed when you pushed it in the put the new brake pads on. Other thing I could think of is you didnt clean all the greasy fingerprints off the rotor.

    Big thing to look for is excessive heat. If that caliper is stuck it will over heat in a few miles.

    It was the caliper.....however, now my brake lights stay on.

    low brake fluid or your e brake is on.

    i have the e brake on because its a manual & the reservoir is full.

    Sorry I read that the brake light on the dash was on.

    There is a push button switch mounted top of the brake pedal (underdash) that triggers the brake lights.
