Sealant before oil pan/oil seal?

Hello everyone,

So I have the head and rockers at the rebuild shop right now and hopefully I will have the head back by next week! In the meantime I'm finishing up all the other engine stuff and now have another question.

The manual mentions applying sealant before installing the oil pan and front oil seal on the crank. I didn't know this so I've already installed the front oil seal but have not reinstalled the pan. So what exactly is sealant and do I need to use this? If so I'll take the oil seal out and try it again, it wasn't hard to put in the first time.

The sealant, I think you only want to apply to the corners of the oil pan gasket, right where it goes up and over the end seals. I think you're supposed to put a dab underneath the caps on those same ends just to keep anything from seeping through.

It looks like there could be some gaps there so I'll do it. Is it gasket maker or is there a special sealant I should buy?

I just used Hondabond on mine. No leaks so far!
