is lowering really this expensive??

I wen't to a local shop today and asked them how much it would cost me to get my car lowered 1 1/2" and he told me $722 I think thats a bit expensive, this other place told me $400 but he told me that would lower the car 30mm, 30mm you won't even see that.

lowering your car the right way is expensive. you've got to replace the struts, about $450 depending on what brand. I say $450 cause I'm going to use Koni's. And Springs or Coilover's run $200-350. It all depends on how low you go and what brand you use. I'm going with Ground Controls, so they are about $350. If you go lower than 1.5", you'll need camber kits for the front, and I'm not sure where to get them cheap, I havent asked anyone yet. Theres also the option of going to the junkyard, getting some 2g prelude upper arms to use instead of the camber kit.

well you dont have to have them but you wont be able to get the alighnment set right, i have 2'' drop and no camber kit and so does A20A1 if im not mistakin, my tires are NOT wearing any and i have awesome handling.

How much of that is labor? What struts are they going to use at that price? No new sturts, run, not walk away. Don't fall for the lie that you don't need to run new (firmer) struts.

If I wanted to get my 1.5" H&R's again and koni's in the front and tokico's in the rear + install them myself (really not hard at all) it would cost me. $475 Paying a little more for the Koni's at least in the front is one of the best investments you'll make in your car. Get it right the first time.

And I really want to stress that changing the sturts and springs really isn't that hard to do your self. Don't cheat yourself by spending money for someone to install it for you when you can put that money into the right suspension parts.

You should pay no more then $300 for springs and install. I paid $250 for my springs and install. Some places charge a lot though.

Get some good deal springs on ebay or on other sites and get struts. These should run you about 300-400. If you need camber kit then just get the prelude arms. New ball joints for these is recommended (30+70=$100).
Do the work yourself, it's really simple (that is if you don't get into pissin trouble like mine).
Then after all that get an alignment (~$50++).
So it'll run you about $550 max.

Oh the good thing is you know what you'll be running and make you own setups. If you go shops and ask them to drop it for you, they'll just chop 30mm off and send you on your merry way.

that price is for springs only, no new struts. The springs are Pedders, a big Australian company

Found this paragraph at a web site selling suspension and handling upgrades for mitusbishi eclipse's.

"We strongly recommend purchasing a quality shock absorber along with these springs. They are approximately 20% stiffer than stock. The purpose of the shock is to control the spring energy. Get more spring & you need more shock. If you are on a budget and can't afford both, get shocks only for better handling. If your only purpose is to get all the chicks & look cool with a lousy ride, get springs only."

i did mine for under $400 with Neuspeed springs Tokicos and KYBs doing all the work myself. i got discounts from work and i don't have the receipts with me but i think that it still may have come out under $400. but there were other miscallaneous expenses that i didn't add up like new bushings and bolts and stuff. but still, it was under $400. but i had to do a lot of work with things that were frozen. to pay for it the labor would have probably been a lot even though pros have way better tools and resources than me.

hey if you do the work yourself, it's ALOT cheaper. It's quite easy actually, simple enough for beginners or big heads, well until you confront into problems
