what year is your hatch? i think the 86-87 hatches didnt have the seatbelts on the doors and the coupes have the seatbelts in the doors

1986, and yeah my belts are on the B-pillar, even so all I want are the door panels and mirrors, etc. if the door panels are the same I'll be good to go really. Door hinges are also sagging a wee bit so was hoping to maybe swap the whole door, but if not it's all good.Originally Posted by MessyHonda
The 86 87 doors are different then anything else the hatch doors with the belts attached like the coupe are completely incompatible with earlier hatches, I _had a couple here, you can use the hinges though, early mustang hinge rebuild kits look like they could be modified to rebuild the pin and bushings in the hatch hinges

All 1986 hatches and early 1987 hatches (made in late '86) have the seatbelts mounted to the b-pillar, so mid-1987-1989 hatches and 1988-1989 coupes have different door panels and such.
So, no, coupe door panels will not work (correctly) on your 1986 hatch. The doors will not work because of all of the internals in the doors with seatbelts in them are different that the doors without seatbelts. The mirrors are fine, though.
The later doors also have an additional. Latch at the top edge of the door, the top of the the door had to be stronger for the belt
