MIGHT have figured why I could only go 90 MPH...

Maybe you remember my thread about topping out at 90, but it was a decent 90 (no miss or stall). Well, today I got to 95 with no problems and the tach was only at 4. The other day it was at 5. I might have been in D3 instead of D4!!! I usually check it (my D4 light is finicky on the dash), but that's my conclusion. Lower RPM's and no problems. Also, I only got about 22MPG on that lil roadie. WOuld being in the wrong gear decrease gas mileage??? I usually stroke 28 on the HWY. I spose it coulda been bad gas, but I always buy gas at the same place and have never had any problems with them at all. Do my symptons describe an out of gear situation???

    D3 won't let you use 4th gear..

you have to rev D3 to 7,500 to go 125 mph, just don't though

third gear will give you worse gas mileage than fourth gear.....but it will also let you accelerate faster. I'd rather be in d3 than d4 around 90 mph cause you'd be in a better gearing situation and could pick up speed a whole lot faster well until redline and then it would be a smart idea to shift into fourth and finish pegging out the speedo......WARNING: please don't hit any small children or large objects while doing this
In the end...it doesn't even matter.

reving a 14 yr old car with no engine rebuild would mess up the engine more quickly. Be sides, after 5500 rpm, ur gaining nothing. But its only true, if ur bone stock.

drive in D4 cuz it is better for gas mileage... and when u need to accel at 90... u floor it and the detent shifts down for you. so drive in d4 all the time... i was gonna ask bout this but i forgot...

.... just punch it and it will drop a gear... to test it you can slam it.. then once you feel the gear drop put it into d3 when you let off it wont do anything ... it'l just stay in d3 ... the only time that I drop it down manually is when I want it to stay in D3 even while I take my foot off the gas... that way it wont shift down automatically.....

outta curiosity what size tires you runnin on the front? stock size on 14" alloys is 195 60 r14 smaller profile tires = higher speedo reading, also remember speedo's arent always acurate anyway if your bored some time set your speed at 60 and run a stopwatch between 2 mile markers on a highway should be 1 min between them with that you can determine your in accuracy. p.s. hope your runnin h rated tires or better at 140 hate to see another totaled sei tho it would be nice to have another armrest

i culd have gone fast on my straight away but the straight part ended and that's were all the cops hang out, so i decided to back off. I can go faster i think i was only at 4k, maybe 4.5k. So i still had room to go.

Im running the stock rims, the tires seem like they have a smaller profile. The tires were one of the cheapest i could find and brand new.

PS: my armrest isnt in that good of condition

hmm... if they are the cheapest then I wouldnt try those speed runs anymore.... dont want to kill youself there man... I have one month old kumho ecsta supra 712 tires that are ZR rated at 150mph + .... just dont run those speeds with tires that are like q, s, t, u, or even h speed rated... anything higher.... like v, w, y, z is cool....

here are the specs on my 712's

I smell BS. I doubt that you got your stock SE-i to go 140. Most EFIs top out at 125-130 stock.

HostileJava: check again, your speedo should go up to 130....
