1987 Honda Accord Sedan/ New Guy

Hey, I just bought a 1987 Accord Sedan. I've never had a car with a carbeurated engine before so this should be fun... I got it for $400 and it has a blown head gasket which is about to be fixed but I need help... I want this to look Clean first. I want it "slammed" and I need coilovers, and I want new non-plastic bumpers and a front and maybe a rear lip. Then it will get painted but I also want strut bars, but it's hard finding parts not knowing where to go so if y'all could help that be good thanks!

All of these cars have plastic bumpers, just the DX had unpainted ones. These cars already have a tiny rear lip, but a factory front lip is nearly impossible to find. You can get one from a 1986-1989 Acura Integra:

Some 3geez came with bumpers in color, but they're still plastic
BTW, the only thing from the front of the Integra that can be used on our cars is the bumper LIP, not the entire bumper (at least, not plug and play)...

Re: 1987 Honda Accord Sedan/ New Guy

Sorry I wasn't clear; like bryan6732 said; just the lip is "plug-and-play". It would take some work to get the Integra bumper to fit.

Again, assuming you have black bumpers, I assume you have a DX. All DX's had unpainted plastic bumpers, but all LX's, LX-i's, and SE-i's had painted plastic bumpers. If your car isn't one of the weird DX colors you can probably find an LX or LX-i in the same color and get the painted bumpers from it. They will still be plastic, though.

I just want a good clean body when she runs dependably. I'm buying a new head gasket, timing belt and intake manifold in the morning for a lil surgery. Please feel free to give me some pointers on nice bodies and suspension by the way, has anyone found any strut bars??

DC made a strut bar. Extremely rare, extremely expensive. A few people have made custom ones, but other than that...

Ok I know I keep asking about those bumpers, lol, but if I get a front airdam, is that a whole new thing? As in I would have to remove my stock front bumper all together and the airdam would take its place?

Re: 1987 Honda Accord Sedan/ New Guy

When I bghy the car the guy said it may need a new head gasket, well, mutual guy is starting work tonight. In praying the block isn't warped... The guy before me immediately turned the car off when he noticed rising temp so he really didn't ride it hot and also got a new radiator and that's when the water and oil mixed so he tries liquid fix sadly, and it didn't work so I took it for $400 I just wanna know what my chances are that this thing isn't warped??? Good chance she'll be ok???

I doubt the cast iron block is warped, that thing is tough. I think it just need a head gasket.

Hey guys, the accord started with no rising temps! it does need a new exhaust manifold which is coming in and a valve cover gasket I believe. How ever she lives!! And I am more than happy. I plan on adding a xenon body kit and paint it all white. So pics to come. Any way what does the valve cover gasket normally run? And will it stop the little bit of white smoke?

The new gasket should be a lot less than $10. White smoke at the tail pipe?

Nobody has mentioned the water passage in the base of the carburetor. It might be the source of the white smog. If your water level is getting low but there are no visible leaks anywhere, it is possible the water is getting inside the intake manifold through this passage.

If you look to the base of the carb, there is a black plastic 1"-thick piece with a couple of wires coming out of it, that's a heater. It turns on for 15 minutes after startup to help the car during warm up.

It has o'rings in top and bottom sides to seal such water passage.
The good news are the replacement o'rings are included in the autozone's rebuild kit for the carb. The bad news are that removing the carb to change the o'rings is kind of...laborious.

Re: 1987 Honda Accord Sedan/ New Guy

Well the story of this car is strange and it all keeps coming back to the radiator it seems.. The previous owner had it, radiator went bad so he got a new one, he thought the new radiator had so much more pressure that the head gasket blew. Well I replaced the head gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, timing belt, valve cover gasket. So all this had been done new oil and 50/50 to flush out old gunk and plus the engine was sprayed with degreaser where needed. So I had a guy helping. He drove it a few blocks, says he pulled up to his house and the radiator hose just happened to rip. so I said screw it. Bought a new lower radiator hose, thermostat, thermostat gasket, and the housing plus some sealant. Just need a upper radiator hose and MY QUESTION IS: can this radiator really be running that high of pressure?!?!
