yeah I know I'm anti ebay but I couldn't find what I was looking for around here. Besides some shipping issues its mine. I have been driving it a little. Good driver runs down the highway great! just pretty ruff shape rust wise not surprised. The price was right.

It was not very well taken care of otherwise. I drained the radiator is was pretty much river mud.Motor oil was junk, brake fluid was low and muddy. The power steering bracket is broke because the bolts were all loose and the front brake rotors are shot from sitting mostly. There not available atm so kinda sucks. I dusted them off with a wire wheel and put new pads on it. The rad not available either really except custom. I think its been Dr.'d a little for a leak im guessing.

I dumped into my driveway a little hard from the street and the rad. shroud is stroking the fan a little but i think its home made so ill prolly junk it.

The 4 speed is well... truck like. Better double clutch your gears and 1st it useless I just start in 2nd from a stop.

Blue that is awesome and it even having brake rotors is amazing so it must be a nice International and rare. Price right indeed!
Heh I just bought a starter for one of those last week lol It fits the Mercruiser 470 um for testing um only
You may get lucky and find out another rotor set can work on it.

Yeah i'm already in scheme mode on the rotors. There so rare there not even listed as a part number so I can't get the specs to match them up to a Ford or Dodge. You can change everything over to 1978 3/4 ton Chevy but it seems to be a PIA.

its a good ride that I "always wanted one" type thing. I don't know how much I'll do to it.

hah thats not in the equation. I think usually they get 12 mpg. I have had a Scout II for about 25 years. But I don't have one with a IH motor, 345.

I am actually thinking about doing CNG with it and having a fill station at the house.

The motor runs pretty good. It has a lifter tick I might attack some day but the oil pressure is actually pretty good for an IH motor. The redline is a whopping 3800 rpms!

CNG would be cool, or propane. Propane might be easier (and cheaper) since you could use pre-filled forklift tanks (or even BBQ tanks) and not have to mess with using a NG compressor. And I think propane is more efficient volumetrically since it has a higher energy density.

Is it a stroker type engine or still fairly close to square?

    Re: My 40th Birthday gift.........

I think the 304/345 engines are square. I ll try and find the specs. There med duty truck engines so the crank is very heavy but its rated around 165 hp.I know they make great torque down low I have heard they factory tested them at 2000rpm for 300 ft lbs of torque. I had one in my 1972 Scout II was rated just under 200hp at 4000 rpm. From memory the rods are huge compared to like a Ford 302.

I think hitting the driveway made the motor shift the mounts rubber is hanging out. Weird I started it in the daylight and I can't hear a thing hitting now.

I'm doing a tune up on it this weekend, poke around some more on it, and keep driving it.

I found a post where a guy used Chevy rear rotors from a 2003 HD. I 'm going to follow up on that. The brakes are good as far as driveabilty.

Looks like the rear drums are also nonexistent. I think there's a not so nice squeak in the rear some place or I got a bad U joint as I'm moving I can hear it repeating itself.

I drove it to work and back about 60 miles didn't seem to use any more than 5 gallons but that carb is driving me nuts with its flat spot esp when I shift. I adjusted the accelerator pump linkage but it made it worse I think the throttle shaft is just to bad gone.

    Re: My 40th Birthday gift.........

Driver side rear wheel bearings were bad and the passenger side was not much better. Kinda frustrating cant get the races out of the passenger side and hit the top of my thumb with a 4 pound hammer in the process.

I think I am going to go with a new Holley 2 barrel carb.

    Re: My 40th Birthday gift.........

I'm gonna have to weld them out. I was working on switching my welder over to gas but my blood pressure is still getting to low sometimes so I didn't do anything except watch Mark Martin nearly T bone himself to death on TV.

I got the new ones in the freezer as we speak. Weird things is the bad side came apart pretty good this "good" side is being a PIA.

I think the root cause might be either wrong rearend oil or its way contaminated with water. The bearing cage on the right was so rusty it just let all the rollers fall out when I pulled the bearings. The seal also may have been letting moisture in.

Sorry no pictures posted. I still cant get Imageshack to except any of my Email addresses at all. It say's there all taken and it won't send me back a new password. I have tried 3 different ones.

roodoo I am looking at the new FI tb's like that MSD and Fast Ez efi . I kinda was thinking about taking my Quadrajet off my Scout and buying a 4 barrel intake for the IH 345 and paring them up on the truck.A guy in Cali is casting alumnium ones. I found this site that has Quad parts http://quadrajetparts.com/ I would need new rear rods and a choke setup. I modified that one to run on my 440 and it would be to rich on a stock 345.

I was looking at E-85 carbs yesterday I think I want to go 100% E-85 on my Scout but the Fuel Injection setups would be really cool. A new E-85 carb is like $650 dollars. I run 50% E 85 now but that's all I can get on the Quad and it has to be pretty warm out to run correctly the motor wont go over 160 degrees otherwise.

    Re: My 40th Birthday gift.........

Why are E-85 carbs so expensive? I've seen similarly priced E-85 "conversions" for Edelbrocks and can't figure out what you would convert. It's all aluminum. What's going to disintegrate? Is it a scam or what?

    Re: My 40th Birthday gift.........

Well a Holley 750 is like 485$ so with the new parts I guess it adds up. There one or two places that sell you the mettering bodies(blocks) to do it your self but I only have one new 750 and I am saving it for my 1974 Plymouth Scamp project I never get around to finishing.

I got the races out with the weld trick and found out someone had peened all around the area to make them stick better. But the new ones had a good press fit so in the end it all back together. I ran it around the block parked it and while I had my foot on the brake the rear brake line popped.

So my local fitting place where I get my flex lines made has got some of this Ezebend brake line. they gave me a small piece. Anyone try it seems pretty cool and its approved.

    EDIT: http://www.fuelsender.com/brake_line.html
