Thanks Man!! It's a 530i so it has the 3.0 beefier Inline 6 with 225 hp stock. i was so tempted to get the v8 but the fuel costs steered me away fom it

the 530I I6 has fewer issues than the 540 V8 or M5. I personally have always wanted an E39 M5 but after knowing 2 people that had one and both having major issues and sinking major cash into it on an almost monthly basis I just let it go.

I encountered a pretty steep (and expensive) learning curve on my E34. The cars are complicated and not many people know them well. That includes the shops that work on them. A relatively cheap component can make, say, the transmission do strange things. When you take it to the shop, they will recommend a new transmission because they don't know any better and figure that Bimmer owners must have money to throw at things. I know I'm a big fan of DIY, but it's imperative to DIY on these cars if you don't want to drop a few thousand on them every few months. You also have to find a good discussion board. Bimmerboard.com was amazing for me. The cars will never be as cheap as a Honda, but if you are okay with $100 (in parts alone) oil changes and such like, you can have a very nice car that will run and run and run for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Yep they sure do!! And yes that E39 M5 is very tempting with the 400 hp!! Im glad I decided to go with this one it has decent power and not too bad on fuel

Yes you are right Dr Snooz. Preventative Maintenance is a must on these cars. The cooling systems have known to have issues with the exploding fan clutch syndrome. And the Vanos seals are known to fail over time resulting in lost power and fuel economy. And yes the dealer wanted $120 for a oil change! Trust me I stay away from the dealer as much as possible lol. What happened to your E34??
