This might give a few ideas: http://retrorides.proboards.com/inde...=132760&page=1
Seems to suggest other programs (illustrator?) might be better if you want final graphic details cut from vinyl since they provide/work-in vectors but photoshop is great for getting an idea of how things will look beforehand.
I know 1stgencivic.org members had replicated some Dealer option stickers... will have to have another look/dig to see it they had also shown/found Accord ones.

I think that style would look great on the Accord and were shown in this article 2nd gen guy had scanned.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/jgturk/...5923/lightbox/
Though I'm not so sure they were actually Dealer accessory/option.

I found this article with pictures of one rather more 'late 70's' dealer sticker

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/trigger...n/photostream/
(I think we'd better start another thread for magazine articles as well !! )

I like the Plastidip idea since being beige I'm still not sure how I would cope with the extra attention of obvious stripes, hence I was also considering subtle "ghost" stripes by laying out an outline with pinstripe tape. Stick on cut vinyl stripes also tempting (carbon effect outrageous?)

I suppose I'd better duplicate this photoshop here again for ideas

And the one that sparked this:

    Lets find more!

Not imaginative enough? or just application? They're turning me off my "boss" style 'shop.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

Very nice pic of some first gens!
I don't like any oh those but the one beige car with the stripe over the hood would be a goid start , it has the wrong dimensions now.
Have you considrd the split color styles where the hood, top, and deck are black or white? Then a strip of those colors on thr rocker panel line...

I am a fan of the Shelby style skunk stripes but not on the 1gee hatch, the Starsky and Hutch style on he black car would look better if the whole quarter panel took on the stripe color so you are shading a profile of another bodystyle of the same car without actually having the sheetmetal.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

Well you got me experimenting since I knew most of those stripes could be done better:

Sill striping is still a classic and doesn't HAVE to look like those of the GT350, though we'd probably want Accord text since too many people these days think we're driving Civics!

I really like that Civic style hooked stripe too

And the Boss Mustang style pouring from the bonnet vents

But obviously it wants some extra imagination to not look copied; experimenting with frt striping to match vent outlets and the "Sun" motif

    More experimentation.

I did avoid the lengthways top striping as being a little unimaginative, though there's still many options there.
There is of course no end to the colour & pattern options with ladders, striped, strobes, text etc. so not much excuse for generic stripes copied from something else.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

Defanetly like this one the most....the thin stripe ones look good but are too high

how about a little lower so they are even with the bottom of the door like on a "GT"
and im assuming black would be the color for mine but i like the satin black more than gloss...it will make em stand out alot more......just like the hood stripe on the 85 GT mustang

sorry i keep referencing mustangs so much thats all i ever realy owned haha

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

I rather fancy this look. I like how the stripe follows the line of the car.

And I like the direction this is going. Definitely fills out to the rear of the car nicely, and I like how it tapers up the C-pillar. I'd like to see that without the lower stripe. I think 2 stripes might be a bit much with one being straight and the other curvy.

But awesome work on those photoshops! I really like this!

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

The 5th, 6th and 7th from the top are my favorites. I've seen pinstriping and some filligree on an old 2 door once at Pick and pull that I wish I'd taken a pic of. It was fairly detailed, but more of a "ghost color" and very subtle...noticeable for sure, but the detail didn't stand out till you got close. It was mostly like "The hook" as you put it. I didn't know if it was dealer add-on or just the work of someone with some real talent. The filligree looked like it wasn't a decal but actually just hand painted. As for color I'd go for something completely blatant, or something fairly neutral and low key.
Just my 2 cents...can't wait to see what you come up with.

Dang, you have some talent for this. I think they are all good. Can't wait to see what you put on the car.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

Yes I like this "arrow" concept too, & agree it doesn't need additional lower striping. It evolved from the "hook" with 2oodoor's suggestion & the desire to continue further along the rear 1/4, but wouldn't have looked right getting too thick up the pillar so I faded it out with the strobe/filigree lines. Also added matching lines on frt vents here.

An orange version of the "hook". Definitely try to follow the body lines.. which gave that interesting 'blade' like seperation between the main stripe & it's outline on the frt fender. Integrated it to a side marker light here.

I always hated the Starsky&hutch stripes as particularly crude & having no relationship to the GranTorino they were on.

Experimenting with a stretched stripe here. Colours can be interesting!

A lower sill stripe. Might look better without such prominent bumpers.

I've been thinking about stripes for a while, but still am not sure I have the confidence to apply any when I still like a clean look.

Here are some more dangerous '70's stripe inspiration threads:

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

A friend wanted to see the 'arrow' concept continuing further up the rear pillar.
I also wanted to try some simpler lower sill striping.

And I had another concept idea.

I like the way that tapers up the pillar a bit further. I think it fills up that are a bit better than the other one with the smaller taper. Still not sure how I feel about having 2 stripes though. I feel like it's a bit much.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

I've never been a big fan of stripes that tell you too much about the car. If there's one thing these cars don't need it's another instance of "Honda" or "Accord" on them. This is just my opinion, guys. I, for some reason, have always had a soft spot for those single, off-center stripes going up the hood and following across the roof and truck.

Nowadays I just like the cleanest possible look.

I have to agree with DB, I'm not a big fan of "name stripes" either. I also agree in that I love off center stripes, although to be honest I'm not so sure they suit this car. I think something understated that accentuates the shape of the car is highly suitable, unless you're gonna Mary Poppins a twin turbo'd stroked and bored H22 into it: in which case I'd paint it Electric Lime Green and Pink then slather it in stripes and Honda logos.

    "Why?"
    "Because F**K YOU that's why!"
"This thing'll break the sound barrier in 3rd gear! I'll paint it however the f**k I want!!!"

    Sorry...feelin a little silly tonight.

    Re: Factory or custom stripes?

Well of the named stripes I must admit to being most horribly drawn to those horribly gaudy garish violent orange HONDA stripes, with black & white outlines for ultimate contrast. The later one with stretched ends to exaggerate the wheels. They're just SO 1970's, work well with a beige background, and being low & where people expect to see trims anyway they don't break up the sides so much and add shape where the car starts to get straight.
But I like the Hooks, Arrows and striped & extended Boss variations as well...

Stripes aren't for subtlety. And might not fit with the more expensive, refined comfortable image the Accord sought, but they are fun & racey
But I admit I still like a clean look as well so remain undecided.

Must build another Accord, but have a Lancia & Honda Z to sort first.. err & the Prelude needs attention again.

Before clicking on this thread I was dreading what I would see, but I think you have some tasteful ideas. However, I personally would stay away from anything that says "Honda". Seems kind of obvious to me.

HOLY F**K Where do you folks find these treasures? LOL I'm always stunned to see someone post some 30 y/o Oem stuff on here. I always wonder if they managed to sneak into some cobweb filled forgotten vault buried beneath their local Honda Dealership's parts department.
