    Izumi steering wheel?

well i thought my car was all original but the steering wheel always had me a little suspicious.....never seen it before and the factory wheel is an ugly 80s gm truck looking one........what is the name of this wheel? are they hard to find? and why would an old lady put this in the car?

Not sure about the wheel, but I'm reasonably confident that your shift knob is not original. LOL

I'm 95% sure that is a rare JDM Faux wood-grain Izumi Steering wheel. I'd kill to trade with you, that thing is amazing. I'm not sure if that is stock or not.. doubtful really

    Re: Izumi steering wheel?

    I'd say period aftermarket.
I don't think there were other 'JDM' Accord wheels apart from the basic black plastic (& metal spoke), 3-spoke Civic 4&5 door wheels that were fitted to the most basic Accord in Japan, complete with rubber floor mats & 4-speed transmission.

The Accord shares the Civics steering shaft splines that Honda kept for decades.
The older Honda's S600-800, N360-600 & Z360-600 had a different spline pattern & even more delicate wheels. That N600 picture shows a fairly generic Grant steering wheel dosen't it?

    Re: Izumi steering wheel?

SylusMk2 Izumi wheel has an unlikely logo for Honda but probably would be rare in its own right & does look good.

Just for fun; other early Honda wheel pictures I know of.

The N360/600 horn button is original, here's their normal wheel:

And the N360/600 Deluxe wheel I have a home; VERY thin plastic fake wood rim:

Honda Z360/600 wheel, showing how delicate they are.

Recognizable from most early Accord & Civic w/shop manual covers.

Classic Honda S600 wheel, later were plastic fake wood.

Civic 2/3 door Wheel '76?-79, normally black plastic rim but there was a wood grained version available upon Japanese Civic RS models:

Civic 4/5door Wheel, normally black plastic rim but there was a wood grained version available upon Deluxe USA editions:

Obviously we all know the original Accord wheel, that was colour matched in later years for upper spec. models.

    Re: Izumi steering wheel?

Just stumbled upon this image on a Datsun 510 site:

    http://datsun510.com/photopost/showp...heels&cat=3142
as OE supplier of the 510 SSS steering wheel and displayed in their '72 Datsun accessories catalog.
    ...

So definitely a period Japanese supplier of steering wheels, OE & aftermarket. Though I've never seen Steering wheels in Honda accessories catalogs.

And on a distraction of this thread some interesting early Honda technical/brochure renderings..http://www.cartype.com/pages/3779/hisashi_saito

    Re: Izumi steering wheel?

This looks familiar; knew I'd seen it somewhere..
Mitsubishi Celeste/ Lancer Hatchback / Plymouth Arrow

So they obviously had other variations including solid, without the holes.
