    Just cleaned out the rust in my gas tank, oops!

    Okay all you technical 3geezers, I managed to inefficiently clean out the rust in my gas tank (compliments of a rusty fuel filler neck).

    Upon putting it back together I created a leak.

    The fitting toward the front of the car (by the gas tank) did not come loose for me to be able to get the tank fully free from the car. Unfortunately, this fitting now leaks (all over my condo's parking lot too) and doesn't want to budge. WTF should I do?

    which fitting are we talking about the actual tank or something attached to the tank, the tanks don't have a bottom outlet so how is gas getting out?

    This is the line to the EFI, which has a hose connection (left side of diagram), my problem is with the fitting (uses 14mm I believe) for the return. its underneath 18 in the top picture

    Didn't seem corroded when I started messing with it. Damn thing didnt want to come loose and i gave it hell trying to break it loose.

    If its return you maybe able to use a rubber line to splice in. I am not sure what the return pressure is on our cars. Seems like you split the tubing pulling on it or the gas tank.

    The return pressure is essentially zero so you can splice in a rubber line if you have to.

    now that its daylight, i'm going to jack up my car real high and look and see how its leaking. i'd rather not splice in a hose to bypass that fitting

    Okay I went out and tried to tighten that fitting and it started leaking on me. I even stared at it a minute to make sure I was actually tightening it. So I guess I get to get rid of it.

    Just wondering, is that a compression fitting?

    If you are talking about the fitting in the bracket in middle of the pic - that is NOT the return line - it is the main fuel line part number 17707-SE0-931. Not sure why you are not able to get it loose - but be sure you are turning it th right way - easy to get messed up under a car and looking at it backwards (been there). The hose part looks to be fixed/welded to the bracket. The part that unscrews looks to be a large version of a flare nut used on brake lines (left side of braket in the pic). Put plenty of Liquid Wrench (or equiv) on it and use a flare nut wrench and lock a set of vise grips onto the bracket as a holdback. Work it back and forth - flare nuts should spin around the tubing as they unscrew, but they love to get stuck to it and twist it into a pretzel.

    thanks for all the insight, I managed to get that line fixed, replaced a pcv valve and she runs great!
