How hard is it to repalce the power steering with a manual steering rack? What will I need other then the rack and pinion?

It's my understanding that manuel power steering was never offered in the US. I've heard that it was offered in the base model in canada in either 86 and or 87. Carrotman has mentioned this before. I was interesting in doing this since a manuel rack would have much better steering feel than simply pulling the pump on a power rack. But I lost most of my interest when it looked like it was going to be difficult to do and finding a manuel rack also didn't look to promising.

AccordEXI has found a bunch up around where he lives. I asked about them in the Market Place, and he said he can get them for around $100CDN, which is pretty cheap in $US. Ask him.

I just PM-ed AccordEXI on it. It's been a while since he's been on the board, though. He's chosen not to receive emails from the board, too. If someone can get a manual rack, I would definitely be interested in buying it.

That's what I'm doing right now. I have concerns about a rack designed for PS being used long term as manual, though. A rack straight up manual rack would be more suited for the job. A friend of mine who is a Honda mechanic told me not to expect the rack to endure with the PS gone.

Eventually it will wear down, and also, the turn effort is more from standing still.
