Unhappy 89 Accord LX Carb idle & downloader problems.

5 spd. manual trans. Having major problem with idle control & high RpmS @ shift points. did a head gasket replacement, tim. belt, water pump @ 2 mths ago. Car had smooth idle before, but can't seem to put a finger on the problem or problems. Description: Car starts good cold, but takes @ 2 min. to get to fast idle. Will run @ 3 min. on fast idle @ 2500 RPM then as choke opens it starts to slow down & will eventually stall. Will not idle for shit! Also, when driving, the engine races between shift points & if I engage clutch long enough to let it coast, it will stall out. Have checked over & over for vac leaks & can't find any. PCV rattles on inspection & squeezing hose makes rattling noise - seems OK! This is a carb from hell w/ 4 adjustments that are adjustable & another that is factory sealed & only adjustable after removing carb - idle mix. Not sure which carb it is & they make 6-8 diff. ones. Lots of vac. hoses, diaphragms & sending units. I've tried throttle cable adjustments & all reachable carb adjustments. Doing a tunup now, but hard to do if won't idle. Have not checked the valves for adjustment. The more I work on it , the more confused & frustrated I get!
    Any suggestions??
    Beasley

There is one screw in the back of the carb to set the minimum idle speed. I put a picture once please search for "minimum idle speed" so you know how it looks like and where is it located.
I would recommend to adjust it to >1000 RPM first, and with the car finally idling search for other problems. You can always screw it back a little bit to a most comfortable idle speed.
