Pics of My Combo Switch Rebuild

I finally got around to rebuilding my combo switch. I used RussianKid's How-To, https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthrea...eadlamp-switch and https://www.3geez.com/forum/showthrea...eaning-rebuild. For about 5 years, getting my wipers to work has involved a lot of finagling. I took some pics and thought I'd share them.

These were the contacts for the windshield wipers.

As you can see, the one contact is completely coated with black goo. The goo is about the consistency of tar and required a good amount of alcohol and wire brushing to get clean. The situation on the other side of the contact is worse.

There is black goo everywhere, thick and sticky. I wasn't having any issues with the headlights, so I figured those contacts would be fine. I was wrong. Here is the one side of the headlight switch.

The other side was also full of goo.

    Hazard switch is also gunky.

If you remove the steering wheel any time soon, I'd recommend that you clean your combo switch when you do. Even if you aren't having any trouble, it can still be quite gunky.

Be sure to coat every contact with dielectric grease so they don't corrode up again.

Our cars are getting older and older. This kind of rebuild is bound to happen to other areas as well.

I think I'll be doing this on my headlight switch sometime soon....my headlights have been ummm...operating weirdly lately. I'll probably be doing a full switch replacement but after seeing this I'm wondering if I might not have to....As much as i love my flip-ups...I hate them too.

Re: Pics of My Combo Switch Rebuild

I recently just changed my old combo switch. And the New one I junked works perfectly, the only thing is, The light switch does not click back in forth, as in the actual hardware, the lights work and everything, sound as well. but It feels as if the actual light switch itself, is not getting stuck, in position. Would you know the answer to my problem?
