    Arrow CV joints

ive got a problem with my cv joints....before i bought the car they got new boots put on them...so they say,,

and now ive got this problem that the grease is actually coming under the boot were it meets the hub.Its on both cv's were it meets the tranny right behing the oil pan...

and its splattering a nice ring of grease under the car and melting and dripping down ....i thought it was oil but it isnt..

should the grease melt inside the boots??? i dint think it should but seeing its near the oil pan it could but it doesnt explain the leaking out the boots....mabbye they used the worng grease..??

anywya i guess i got to fix this before they empty...it says to use moly grease....should it do this???? it doesnt seem like they clammped them good or used proper grease

    BEN
    thats long

the grease in the boot is not supposed to melt, its supposed to stick on no matter what. LIke MIke just said, they probably used a wrong type of grease. Other reason also might be because they packed it wrong, and or did not clam the boot rings tight enough. good luck fixing it though.

i think that they probably didnt clamp the boots tight enough...so the grease is able to slowly come out and then melts from the heat on the oil pan....
its goign to be a pain in the ass to fix it... i dont think that they sell just the real clamps for the boots....ill have to try a big clamp ...the ones they use....oh a hose clamp!! theres the word
ill repack them at the same time too....keep them all lubed up!

zip ties wont stand up to the heat and with the grease in there itll make it slip off....and also zip ties dont actually tie round either so itll want to kink it...
i figured out a plan....go to the auto store and ask to look at a set of boots....and pop out 2 boot rings ,.,.,.hehehehe
no i wont do that but thats plan z

I've seen it quite a number of times.
Cheaper/smaller mechanic shops just use zip ties. Up to you though.

ill try that anchovies....otherwise im going to try and pinch the one on there now an bit more and put a bit of that hightemp silicone around the outer edge so i dont get it coming out anymore...
im leaving grease marks wherever i park....its anoyying..

then i might have to refill it with more grease...thatll be easy ....just going to get one of thos needle point grease heads and pop a little hole in the boot which ill cover with more silicone....I love that stuff....ive used it on all my seals and it works great.

    folks not in the know...

pack the CV boots with grease..which makes them overflow. In the ase of CV joints...tooo much grease doesn't do much except make a sticky nasty mess. Take a look and see how much grease comes with a CV joint kit..and it's special high temp type.

don't cheap out..boots are nearly not worth the trouble and mess...if you ar really broke..just wrap some trash bags around the joints..and use a coupole of heacy duty zip ties to hold it in place.

i guess that they could be over greased,,,

i wouldnt mind that they are leaking grease except for the fact that it is coming out the one right behind the oil pan which in turn gets a nice coating of grease and then melts which drips all over on the driveway.....and my landlord isnt too happy about all the grease stains all over....and previously my oil pan leaked so it was a even bigger mess...

im going to try tighten it a bit and see if the silicione slows it down ....

But thankns for the info...i never really thought that you could over apck them...i always filled them with the grease provided....i didnt do these ones so i have no clue how much was put in
