    RSS Feeds and Navigation Changes

Most of you probably have noticed that we have several new forums that are populated by RSS feeds. The Industry News forum pulls news stories and blog posts from several automotive sources. If you frequent a particular automotive blog or website and want to see it cross-posted on 3geez, let me know and I can see if they have an RSS feed.

The other RSS forums are for eBay. We are part of the eBay Partner Network now, and one of the benefits of that is the ability to use RSS feeds to bring relevant eBay content right to the board. So you'll notice a constant stream of postings from eBay. These forums are searchable and organized by generation. I'll make an effort to delete threads after 30 days so that there isn't too much data to sift through.

I understand that the sheer volume of posts in the eBay forums caused excessive clutter when using the Activity Stream, New Posts button and Today's Posts button. I have fixed this by editing the New Posts and Today's Posts buttons to exclude the eBay forums, and the Activity Stream has been disabled completely. I never liked that the Activity Stream was the default page for the board and not the forum itself. Plus, it was pretty redundant, seeing as we have activity feeds in the forum sidebar, as well as the New Posts/Today's Posts buttons themselves. It seems that folks here prefer using the New Posts button to find new threads, so there wasn't any reason to keep the Activity Stream anymore. It can be brought back by popular demand, but I do not favor making it the default home page for the board.

Is there anyway for the ebay RSS to feed into one thread? That would really keep the clutter down. I'm one of those new post button users, the activity stream made it difficult to look through the threads.

Thanks for that. Why not use the ebay finds for the posting? Just like legend master said if it is possible for one thread and keep posting there that would help alot.

+2. I thought putting it on my ignore list would fix it, but it didn't. is there a way to filter it out from the search results?

RSS feeds can only be posted as threads, which is why dedicated forums make the most sense for keeping them organized. An eBay thread will never show up in search results if you use the New Posts or Today's Posts links. But I have to index them in the search engine so that people can search for items, so they may appear in random searches.

Yeah, I can't really get into editing the Tapatalk plugin. Strange that it doesn't take the same link from the full version of the board though. All RSS feeds update once a day, at 6:00am. So first thing in the morning is when there will be a list on Tapatalk.

The eBay RSS feeds are getting kinda old. 20 manuals, and main seals every day. There's like 50 new posts every day, and it always overshadows the good content on this site.

Re: RSS Feeds and Navigation Changes

I don't see any way to ignore specific sections. I just use the "New Posts" all the time and still see them. I check a couple times a day, so I can't imagine what it's like for someone who uses new posts once every couple of days or once a week.

Re: RSS Feeds and Navigation Changes

Our default quick search box has been switched to Google due to ongoing frustrations with the built-in search feature. The new Google search feature only searches our site, so no special coding is needed to restrict your searches to just 3geez. If you need to fine tune your search to specific forums or members, then the original search format is still available if you click on the Advanced link just under the Google search box.

Foundation members, since the search results are hosted on Google and not our site, there will be ads displayed within the results just like on a regular Google search. But I think you'll find the results themselves much more relevant to what you're searching for.

Re: RSS Feeds and Navigation Changes

Old topic back from the dead: this is annoying " Sorry eBay RSS Feed is a moderator/admin and you are not allowed to ignore him or her."

Averaging almost 40 posts a day is flooding the "What's New" section of the mobile version of the forum. I don't use Tapatalk. Are there any solutions for this? I can't seem to figure it out.

Okay I got the Tapatalk app, they've really improved the app a lot. I will use it to view 3geez on my phone.
