At least it's got sound now.

In my Project Central post I stated that my makeshift sound system would consist of:

    My portable speaker.

I sat down and I thought about it afterward and I came to this conclusion. My portable speaker is about the size and weight of a brick, and it would be sitting on the rear deck of the car. I'd hate to get "donky-punched" in the back of the head by my portable speaker in the event that I slammed on the brake pedal for a quick stop.

A short trip to Walmart, and I had a basic sound system setup in my hands. Mind you...this is only a temporary setup until the rest of the Accord's issues are dealt with. In the future I plan on installing a better system. For now, the only thing that matters to me is that I've now got sound to listen to.

This is the head unit. It's a basic Pioneer CD Player with a detachable face, a remote, and USB/AUX capabilities from my local Walmart.

A pair of inexpensive Pioneer speakers, also from Walmart, for the rear deck.

A photo of the CD player installed and working. No more silence when driving the Accord.

As far as any security protecting my sound system, the CD player has a detachable face, and that's about it for now.

Looks like a perfectly good setup to me. I'm not sure that I'd want much more than that. It's a little late now, but you could always just buy a cheap pair of earbuds for the phone.

I think once the front windshield and the driver side window get replaced around the 20th of this month, and the front-end damage gets repaired after that, I'll start taking this Accord more seriously. My biggest fear of earbuds while driving is that the police will jump for joy before pulling me over when they see earbuds.

someone forgot that part of the driver Manuel that says its illegal to drive with headphones in both ears in cali

Ever Wonder If It's Actually Legal to Wear Headphones When You're Driving?
    "California
It's illegal to wear headphones or earbuds in both ears while driving in California. One ear is okay, though. "

    "Washington
It's illegal to wear headphones and earbuds while driving in Washington--unless those headphones are built into a helmet, or it's a Bluetooth headset."

Okay, bad idea then. FWIW, I have driven past cops with earbuds in. I guess they had recently eaten.

Pioneer is good bang for the buck. I haven't heard any of their recent products but their budget speakers never disappoint. Stick with their 2-way coax speakers, the 3-ways aren't worth the extra $

idk ive always found pioneer speakers to be tinny and just not decent sounding. a few bucks for decent polk or infinity speakers makes the world of differance.

These Pioneer speakers from Walmart are no exception. They have that same "tin can" sound you're talking about. I'm assuming that it's because these speakers are from Walmart and the more expensive Pioneer speakers from elsewhere sound a lot better. I'm also comparing the Pioneer CD player and speakers from Walmart with the system that I had installed in my RX7, and there's a big difference in sound.

I've got a double DIN JVC CD player with Bluetooth and some other bells and whistles that I don't know about.

I compared these Kicker coaxials to some other brands at the stereo shop and concluded that these sounded best.

A Kicker Amplifier attached to the rear of the backseat. One of a couple of sound system components that the LX-i doesn't have yet. That being said, I suppose I can't compare the two systems too much.

The other component missing in the LX-i at this time.

Nevertheless...I vividly remember what the Kicker coaxials sounded like alone and they're a much higher quality than the cheap Pioneer speakers from Walmart.

Don't underestimate the headunit. Its the same Pioneee Best Buy sells. Same features minus bluetooth as the 200$+ HU.

I personally use the newest model Sony speakers from Walmart. 6.5 F 6x9 R, pairred with 2 12 inch subs and a 1600w amp for just the subs.

Sounds like a home theater system in the car.
