88 DX for $1000 on Craigslist... And I bought it for $700

Found this bad boy in replacement of my 05 Element(tranny blew on me three weeks ago).

I need a few things to be replaced that aren't major, but it would be nice:
rear bumper, rear driver side quarter panel, rear driver side passenger door, headliner(torn to shit), and a carburetor.

I also have a poll to decide what to do with the paintjob. I'd appreciate it if you guys voted and helped me out!

Hi, and welcome to the forum. What's the issue with the rear driver side quarter panel and rear driver side passenger door? I can't tell from your photos.

    Thank you!

The rear driver side passenger door, I think, was hit by something and it made a dent Apparently the impact was large enough to peel/chip part of the paint of said dent. So now I have a three or four inch dent with rust, and Bondo isn't an option.(weight reduction ;D)

The rear driver side quarter panel near the tail light area, isn't flush with the tail lights. Something hit the driver side corner of the rear bumper and the quarter panel was affected. I'll take some pics later and post em tonight.

There you go, I also included a picture of the front passenger door. Seems like it was also damaged by something that hit it from the top. Not sure what it was, but it's not sitting flush like its supposed to anymore.

Welcome to the board. Depending on your smog laws, you might want to get the carb fixed before thinking about anything else.

I'm always a big fan of factory restorations, but there will be a lot of other opinions on the board.

Any pics of the car you intend to color match?

Surprisingly enough, even with the car having a bad carb, it passed emissions three months ago, before I bought it. Yes, it did still have a bad carb back then.

I forgot to add "Sleeper" to the options on the poll. I somewhat want to build it from the inside and just leave the exterior be.

Doesn't look like anyone is biting, should I repost the poll somewhere else?

One vote?? And that was me... Its been incredibly stagnent around here the past week or so .
Don't let that discourage you. I've struggled wih paint solutions on my cars, it is hard to decid when parts of the car are still mint original and some are fugly lol.
This week Im deciding on two tone white blue on my sedan LX but that is subject to change if I don't go out and start painting soon. LOL

I think I'd stick with the OEM color. And, I don't see the need to replace a quarter panel. The damage below the tail light could be repaired, I believe, with a dent puller and other tools. I'm not saying I could do that, so I think I'd get an estimate from a body shop on the quarter panel dent. I am inclined to think the dent in the door could also be pulled out and repaired.

I'm actually surprised that people are voting for my idea of the AE86 theme on the CA5. I wonder how that will look. Photoshop time :P

There's a rough look at what it's going to look like.

Yes, I realize that one of them is the 4th gen, but it's pretty much the same concept.

I like the overall look, and she'll be sitting on matte black Watanabe RS wheels.

I'm painting my coupe in panda. It's a period correct color scheme.

Doors are cheap at the junkyard. If you're going to be painting it, I'd just replace the damaged doors. That ding in the rear under the tail light can be fixed fairly easily, as you can get at it if you pull the tail light housing.

Welcome to the site. It gets slow here at times, but that's because I've not been here

Umm, does panda mean black and white, like the animal called panda? In other words, like Yoshi's photo?

That's exactly what it means, it's much like the AE85&6 Trueno, Levin, and Corolla. The black and white paint scheme is technically called "High-Tech Two-Tone" by Toyota's standards, but on the streets, they're referred to as the panda's.

Not a bad choice, depending on the neighborhood you park in. If you fix it up all nice and pretty and then get it stolen or vandalized, that will be a huge bummer.
