    Is your oil too thin?

Yeah, it sounds like he is getting the knock until the oil pressure builds up, then it returns after the oil warms up and thins out. It could be too late though.

I get aa knock for like a second or two on startup if the fast idle tries to rev past 2k (which it does depending on outside temp). Only happens after sitting overnight. I've used 15w-40 and 5w-40 and both did it.

Well what happened was the guy that did my tranny work didnt put one of the coolant hoses back on correctly and it popped off while driving. knock started only 15 mins after that. was thinking i could replace the rod bearings, oil pump, water pump and thermostat while the motor is out and see how that works out. the temp gauge stopped working after this happened as well

Sounds like the bottom end is going out. Gonna need to rebuild it and put fresh Parts to avoid more damage to the internals. Shouldn't drive it anymore unless you scrapping the engine like I did.
