    Grinding

Hey I'm having a bit of a problem shifting into 3rd gear here. Whenever i shift into third it grinds super bad. The higher the RPM the worse it grinds. I was wondering what the cause of this problem was. I'm sure its the tranny but i was told it might be the clutch? I'm kinda clueless here can someone help me out?

if it's only happening in 3rd gear that chances are it's your 3rd gear synchros, if it was your clutch not completly disengaging it would grind in all grear and would be next to impossible to shift

That what i had thought but my friend insisted it was the clutch. I was sure it was the trans or else it woulda done it all the time. Thanks.

Sounds like bad syncros to my I am having mine replaced now I would suggest using Lucas gear oil about 9 bucks a bottle and some 10 w 30 to combat it that is what I did untill I saved enough for a tranny job.

88 Accord, I was just getting ready to post the same thing. My '87 lxi is also grinding in 3rd, also worse at higher rpm's. If it is the 3rd gear synchros, do you just replace those or the whole trans need re-built? What kind of money are we talking about?

for that price you might as well replace your tranny witha used one. with less miles

i believe that the 2nd gen prelude trannys from the 1.8 L engine fit, plus any 3rd gen accord will fit

Its the 2.0 prelude tranny that is the direct swap. The 1.8 needs a little work before it fits.
