Car: 1986 Honda Accord LX carb.
Problem: idling at 2k+ rpms when fully warmed up and won't kick down, and no adjustment will lower it.
Steps taken leading up to problem:
- replaced oil filter base gasket, to fix HUGE oil leak.
- finally go car warmed up, and the car had a horrible idling problem (very low, hunting, shaky, dying when driving and clutch put in).
- spayed carb cleaner to find possible vac. leak. located at carb base gasket.
- removed carb, heater plate, removed old (stuck on) gasket and replaced gasket, and plate o-ring.
- re-installed carb, hooked the 1000000000 vacuum lines back up, marked everything to make sure it all went back on properly.
- started car, high idle when cold (to be expected), but the idle went up to 2k+ RPM's as it started to warm up and was at about 2500 RPM's when it was fully warmed.
- No idle adjustment will drop idle
- I have rechecked for vac. leaks with carb cleaner and I can't find any (or hear any).
- As far as I can tell nothing is keeping the throttle plate open.
One thing that I've noticed is that when the brakes are pushed (while sitting still) is that the idle will jump up and then kick back down when they are released.
I have air getting in somewhere! and I have no idea where, and I am at a loss for ideas.
So if anyone has any ideas where I should look or what might be wrong, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Logan
