Thumbs up My First Honda. 1988 Accord LXi

i was driving around a v8 jeep for a few months and it was killing me, then bam! came across this accord on craigslist listed for 1100 bucks.
so i picked up for 900 bucks and the thing is totally clean. interior, exterior, and runs flawless. mpg's baby! and i actually really enjoy driving it!
o-ring on one of the fuel injectors needs to be replaced and the clutch needs to be adjusted because it's biting really low.
this is my first honda, i'm not much of a mechanic and really inexperienced when it comes to any type of work on a car,
but i hope to learn a lot on 3geez from you guys. hope to meet some great enthusiasts who can guide me along the way.

any suggestions for some simple mods for a broke ass off and on college student? lol

Welcome and congrats on the great car! As far as the injector is concerned, the chances are that the injector itself is leaking. A new injector is what you need. Also, if one starts leaking, they will all follow in a few months, so it's recommended to replace all the injectors at once so you only have to replace the seals one time.

Post pics of the car when you get a chance.

Welcome. Here's a suggestion. Buy this manual: Honda Accord Haynes Repair Manual 1984 1989 85 86 87 88 | eBay. It could pay for itself many times over through savings in repair and maintenance. I have one. Page 1-16 has a picture showing clutch release arm adjustment.

I always found the factory manual to be superior to the Haynes. You can download it freely from the wiki: Honda service manuals - The 3geez Wiki

Download the '89 USDM manual. It's the same as the '88.

That looks like a great manual. But, navigating it in a PDF reader seems rather cumbersome. Any tips on how to find topics in it?

Well, in Linux, you hit F9 to view the Table of Contents. Not sure what you have to do.

Umm ..., it's 955 pages, which is not something I want to print.

What PDF reader are you using? You hit F9 in your PDF reader, right?

I'm using Foxit Reader in Windows 7. Hitting F9 does not display the Table of Contents. I really don't see how any keyboard shortcut is going to display the Table of Contents when the Table of Contents appears to be split up into parts. For example, part of the Table of Contents is way down on page 37, as I see it in Foxit Reader.

I agree this document contains a vast amount of information but navigating through it still appears to be a very cumbersome task. I can't even use the search feature in Foxit Reader with this document, as I can with other PDF files.

I'm using Evince in Linux. If you don't have a View menu or some other way to open the TOC, then you might need to use Adobe's reader or find another way to get the info. If you can't make the *.pdf work for you, then you can always purchase the printed manual from eBay or helminc.com.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats in getting a very nice 3G. You got the EFI car which in my book - and after reading the tribulations with the carbed cars - reads as a keeper especially if you have to pass emissions/smog.
Haynes manual may be useful, but sometimes have wrong info (I experienced that with my 5G Civic).
The OE manual has the right information; better yet, your model is exactly as the 89. It may be too long, but once you get a hold of it it would be invaluable. Just print the pages you need, and search the forums for info.
What are your plans for the car? How long you plan on keeping it?
If it ain't broke... I fix it!

the guy i bought it from always threw in the chilton manual for free. so that was a plus.
i'm pretty much planning to keep it simple and clean, probably just get a touch up on the paint, retint the windows because they look really purple in the sun haha, upgrade wheels, just minor things, nothing too fancy. i'm trying to keep this until the wheels fall off. i've been through 5 cars in the past year, Trooper, AE86, grand prix, and a jeep. i really love this car. wish i kept my 86 but w/e i'm really enjoying my 3g as is.

Your car looks good. Are the black parts of the front and rear bumper moldings whitish in color? I think I would paint them black to make them look consistent with the side moldings on the doors.

I have the same issue with my Accord. The previous owner must have experimented with a change in color for that part of the trim. I haven't taken time yet to rectify that.
