    B16A2 Swap into 1980

    Guys,

Has anyone been able to do this? I swear I found somewhere a while ago someone did.

I know it was done locally here in Sydney once, so i am going to talk to the guy who did it.

I tried searching but couldnt find it.

I am receiving the B16A2 from an Australian EK Civic VTiR. Engine, Gearbox, Mounts, ECU and Loom.

I cant find the article but there was a guy driving around my area who had done it already. 4 wheel disc brake conversion too. Used a CRX engine but.

Yep, you have to build engine mounts for it. Shouldn't be too hard if you can weld. Just line the engine up in there and mock up some templates. Nobody who has a 1st gen Honda with a B-swap has used a kit. I've got the 4 wheel disc conversion done on my 81, should be the same as your 80. Also, post some PICS of your car!

Thanks mate. How did you achieve the 4 wheel disc? From what car did you source the parts etc.

I will. I had them on my laptop. Don't know how to do it from iPad lol

    Re: B16A2 Swap into 1980

There was this one that was published a while ago with a DOHC D16:
    https://www.3geez.com/forum/general-1...ed-accord.html
Obviously he may have developed it further afterwards.
I Haven't seen any evidence of an Australian B-series 1st gen Accord yet, but it is certainly doable if you have the $, patience & skills, with several completed elsewhere, such as this one:
    https://www.3geez.com/forum/general-1...cs-2009-a.html.

That's not to say it would be easy however with completely new mountings needed at the gearbox end, revisions to other mountings, shortened/hybridized driveshafts, trimming/reinforcing of the front-most subframe to clear the frontal exit of the exhaust manifold, and no doubt upgraded brakes & 4x100 Wheel-stud pattern would be a desirable addition. At least EK Civic would be hydraulic clutch like our Accords.

We don't have any detailed buildups to offer for assistance, though have a few examples of the wheel & brake upgrades.

I am going to see the guy who did that conversion on Saturday. He is near my house. Lets see what he says. Hope its not too exxy of a job.

I might even have that issue of fast fours lying around at my mums, so might go back and dig it up if its still there and not in the bin.

The 4 wheel disc required doing the 4x100 conversion. So if you want rear discs, be prepared to overhaul the front end too. 79Cord, Hazwan, and I all have conversion info posted around the forum.

    Re: B16A2 Swap into 1980

If you follow the links of the JCCS b18 accord to chuckD's album, he had also taken some pictures of that cars mounts & modifications.
I remember another Dohc D16 (1st integra) Accord sedan from Canberra, and he had lengthened his lower 'A' arms to use those driveshafts, also increasing negative camber, though I am not sure that would be my first choice.
Different frt wheel bearings allow the use of some other frt hubs that may suit different driveshaft splines better. Late 2g Prelude may be of interest for having the biggest dia hubs & smallest bearings that would fit in the Accords original hub carrier/knuckles.

If you do catch up with the fast4 accord you will have to introduce him to us! And we will have to hope he doesn't take offence to our little criticisms since it still looks to be a beautiful car that he would have gone to a lot of effort upon. Would love to see what he has done to it since.

Was sad to hear the original HondaCarClub of NSW had died recently.

I am hoping maybe EG front rear discs can work. Putting a Vtec motor in this car you need to put EFI lines and stuff in anyway. So see how I go. Depends on how hard it is and cost. Otherwise 4x100 rear accord drums :p

Okay confusion. I am not meeting up with the owner of that car, I am meeting up with the guy, who did the conversion for him. Who did all the modifications.

    Ill have to look at that link a bit more. I did see some pics and stuff.;

No I seen that car a few times and the last time I saw it was early 2002. During that time, show cars were all about bright colours and bright coloured pumped up leather interior. Though the link doesnt work for fast fours anymore and I cant find his interior pics.

I think I had the articles over stylized picture in my linked album.
Unless you want to make some custom rr wheel hubs/bearings or adapters (some 2g prelude fan have done that & 1g civics too), the 2g Prelude rr brake discs/ hubs are the way to go. All others have a very different rr stub axle.

Yeah I had a look. I will show the guy tomorrow and see what he says. That looks clean. Ideally I want to remove the engine.. Get them to make the mounts, then send the car next door to paint the engine bay only. Then back to put the engine in. Will paint the outside of the car later.

Hmm.. that gold one used later model accord brakes? Not sure, Ill see what the Honda specialist comes up with. This guy also built a K20/K24 Hybrid running 200kw at the wheels, put it in a 4th Gen Prelude.

I am also undecided about what colour to paint.. if i should stick with standard, another honda colour or go custom.

i was thinking of this colour:

    or

    Re: B16A2 Swap into 1980

I had fitted 2g Accord drums on the back & they were a nightmare to convert the handbrake cable, 3g would have different stub axle to deal with as well.
1g Prelude/2g Civic/rover Quintet rear drums MUCH easier.

Personally I would try to cut the engine/chassis mountings from the front rails of another damaged Civic to weld into the Accord for a factory look, they should be scrap metal to most wreckers anyway if the rails are damaged. Though they may not fit, require major modification &/or different engine mounting brackets if the rails are wider apart or otherwise in different locations, but the Accord has no engine mounting point on the right side of the car, gearbox end, the way the Civic does.

Would it really be worth the extra effort of repainting the car in a slightly different shade of white if no-one is likely so spot the difference?
Pearl white would certainly stand out as different, but I keep thinking of it as very PIMP and best suited to Lincolns.
I've already mentioned elsewhere that I have a major hankering for the earliest Accords bright metallic blue (or similar) & blue interior.
Polished paint & bigger wheels will transform its appearance anyway, with some fun with period style vinyl film striping also available for less effort.

Yeah, I had a look at the images of the mounts. I need to show them so they can cross reference it. Its been a while since I played with hondas.

You can't see from the pics but the paint has no gloss. Quite dull. And there seems to be chips here and there. Plus spot rust which I plan to eliminate. I think polishing it might strip the paint. I wouldn't mind keeping the original colour, or close it it. Using the modern pearl colour is just a way of making it modern but not. New paint on old. I am still undecided. It's definitely cheaper to paint the original colour, but if you go 2pack, can add up. Lucky the body is straight, hardly any bruising to the metal sheets, when painting shiny or metallic, it really shows if you didn't prep it properly.

Okay spoke to the guy, he said he remembers doing the gold one. Straight up $4k for the labour. Explained to me what he needed to do. I asked about 5 stud and 4 stud conversions, he said anything can be done, just needs time.

Need to think about it. I can buy an EK and put the B16A cheaper than the labour itself.

Yeah, then you'll have just another EK.
