    [Sydney] Beast Build

Guys I decided to post up a bit of a diary about my restoration.

This is the progress so far.

    New door locks
5% Tints including front windshield strip
Sony CD Player with 6" Speakers (New Wiring Yay)
    Remote Central Locking
    Alarm + Immobiliser

Will try to take some more Interior pics if I have time tonight.

Passenger side mirrors are a rarity, since they were a dealer fitted option. I have also found some aftermarket (drivers side) mirrors the same, though worse quality.
Alternatively you might get a pair of the '75-8 mirrors (Civic or Accord) that can be used on either side. Lots are rusty though.
I found early Integra seats fitted easily, & were available in blue... not so common now though.

Looking good man! I would say a big no to those red Recaros. I don't think they'll look right in there at all unless you swap the whole interior to grey. Some period 80's Recaros would look pretty good in there, or the Prelude seats if you're looking for something to hold you in better.

LOL, I better take some more pics then.

I am searching for BMW headlights to do your mod.

Is there a difference between E30 and E32/E34? The low beams on them look the same. I just dont know how you wire them up as the plug on the end looks different like HID style. The 3 pin regular plug would not be able to connect to that.

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

They're similar, you gonna have to cut off the stock mounting tabs anyway. Get the stock plugs for them too if you can. Mine didn't came with them so I had to buy some plugs modded to fit. I believe they're extension cable for H11 bulbs: http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_147285_1.jpg

I simply cut them in half, soldered the female part to the stock low beam wires and the male part into the BMW headlight connector itself.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/...x/DSC_1182.jpg see those yellow/brown wires? They connect to the H1 bulbs for the BMW projectors, I simply replaced them with the male part of the extension cord, basically replacing the stock BMW connectors with these. You can use whatever connector you want obviously but I choose these because they appear factory-like and water proof

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

Pic of wiring is tiny, but I think I get it.

If I decide to go HID on these, then I wont need the bulbs I guess and the connectors arent as important as we can get the HID kit for the H11, then wire it into the H4 low beam harness and connect straight to the battery.

Did you HAVE to cut away the low beam unit socket? Was there no way around that?

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

Yeah I had to there is no way around that unless you get one of those male H4 socket thinggy and hack that instead so you don't have to cut off the stock low beam socket. I had all new wires anyway so its not a big deal. Good wiring + relays are highly recommended if you do this

How about the opening next to the battery.. you took quite a bit out of that hole too. Does the lens not sit flush if you don't enlarge the hole?

Am i correct in assuming, a HID kit running 35w globes, would generate less heat and take less power than a 55w H4 globe?

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

Technically yeah but a relay is still recommended so you won't overload the stock old wiring and switch. I've seen cases even with stock sealed beams where the connectors under the dash melted and causing a lot of problems.

This is as far as they would go without enlarging the hole

And you still gotta make the room for them on both sides

Easiest way to do it would install the low beams on the inside where the stock high beam goes where you'll just enlarge the hole for them up front without having to hack the sides too.

Depending on your battery size you might need to relocate the battery too. I already have mine on the crossmember (soon to be moved into the trunk) so it wasn't an issue for me.

Nice, think I will just have to hack it up a bit

And get a sparky to install another relay thingo.

I drove with those headlights for a few years. I can think of a lot of headlights I'd choose over them. The stock sealed beams in my 3g beat them hands down. It's your car, of course. Don't let me stop what you're trying to do.

I guess the US version is worse than the EDM/the rest of the world version? idk mine is as bright and output is as good as my old H4 housings and beats the stock sealed beams hands down.

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

They put out adequate light, but there is a severe cutoff to prevent blinding other drivers. They never lit any street signs, so it was always a guess where I should turn. When driving in rural or otherwise dark areas, it was impossible to see anything more than a little ways ahead. If you live in a well-lit metro area and never leave, they will probably be okay, but I wouldn't recommend them.

The high beams are another matter altogether. They are amazingly bright and work wonderfully.

    Re: [Sydney] Beast Build

I've used 95/100W sealed beams in my Accord with all 8 filaments on in high beam in stock wiring/switch for years without any issue, the conectors worked flawless, but a couple relays would have been in order. The lighting was just amazing, high beam turned night in day (780 Watts).

I wouldn't risk it on old cars like this. I had a pair of low beam H4 replaced on this guys 1g and it heated up the switch after a while. Relays are cheaper and easier than trying to replace melted switch and wiring! Not to mention the added brightness from them running directly from the battery

The old 1g headlight switches liked to heat up even in the stock configuration. I wouldn't do anything without wiring in a relay in those.
