Anyone near Gainesville, FL have a known good ECU?

Ok, let me back this up a moment.

I'm *finally* getting back to work on my '89 LXi Coupe. Here's what we've got:

    SYMPTOMS:
Vehicle will not start. No attempt to actually fire.

    DIAGNOSIS SO FAR:
Double checked TDC and the distributor - I had installed it 180 degrees out, 100% verified correct now, but timing is not set yet.

Fuel pressure gauge installed. 38psi, leaks down to 0psi over ~30 minutes. I know the injectors are leaking.

    Ohm'd the injectors. 1: 2.4, 2: 3.6, 3: 2.5, 4: 2.6 Thinking I should definitely send the injectors out for a thorough cleaning.

Fuel in the tank is ~ 8 months old. Verified I drained the old gas 8 months back, and put ~ 2.5 gallons in.

Ohm'd the fuel injector resistor. All between 5-7 ohm (average of 6.6)

Verified spark on all 4 cylinders. Good STRONG spark is seen with a 1/4" gap on my spark plug tester.

I don't actually have the airbox, sprayed Ether (starting fluid) directly into intake manifold, still no attempt to fire or run.

No ECM LED light on. PGMFI light does light up for ~2 seconds and goes off when key is put in RUN.

Verified good compression on all 4 cylinders.

Pulled the driver's seat, and did the Honda FSM 'ECU Checklist' - passes everything. FSM states "swap the ECM with a known good one, if symptoms disappear, replace ECM"

So that's where I'm at. I'd like to simply verify my ECM is good. I would like to know if anyone is local around Gainesville, FL with a known good ECM and will let me install it in my 3G for testing.

If anyone has any ideas for me to check next, I'm all ears at this point!

    Thanks!

This sounds most likely. Also, with your leaky injectors, it is probably getting a little flooded while it's not starting, so even if it's something as simple as timing, it's might be too flooded to run. I'd trying moving the dizzy around some more.

Moved the distributor in multiple positions over the full range of motion with no difference.

I have a very good strong spark - and I smell gasoline on the spark plugs, but they are *not* wet.

Likely. Ever find yourself in Gainesville? LOL. Though I suppose another way to test would be I could ride out (it's nice down Hawthorne Rd) with my ECU and toss it in one of your cars.

I'm off Mondays and Tuesdays. Hell, free Tuesday at any point? Supposed to rain tomorrow, but Tuesday looks mostly clear!

Here's a video, you can see what I've done so far (and hear it cranking)

It shouldn't be possible to install the distributor 180 out, as the little drive piece is offset. It makes me wonder if something is messed up inside the distributor now, if you were able to tighten it down like that.

Also, based on your video, it does sound either flooded or that the timing is off.... because it sounds like it almost wants to start. If you grab the rotor and twist it, does it spring back? I've seen the mechanical advance weight get stuck.... though usually they'd get stuck retarded, not advanced.

Thanks to Vanilla Sky, I can verify the ECM is good!

Next step is to send the injectors off for rebuilding!

I've got a set and a half of used injectors if you want try them before springing to have yours rebuilt. 4 of them came from a 1993 Honda Accord and are used, right off the car. The other two were from a set of six from a 1990 Acura Legend that I had "rebuilt" (cleaned), but only used 4, because I put them in that 1993 Honda Accord instead. It turns out I was just throwing money at that Accord, because my problem was actually a $40 oxygen sensor.

They have been sitting for a VERY long time, 6 or 7 years, but you can have them if you want them. You'd just have to cover some shipping, less than $10 I'm sure.

That'll work for me. I'll drop you a PM!

As long as they were kept in some light oil, in a package, they'll be fine!

Unfortunately they were just kept in the tray of my tool box. I can send you a photo if you want.

Sure. Post it up here if you like. I may have a line on a 3G at the local u-pull-it, but no idea if FI or not Will check it out when I get a chance, though.

The 4 from the 1993 accord are IPT, us made and the 2 from the legend are keihin, japanese made.

There is some surface rust on the legend injectors, they came off a used engine I had sitting around for a for years to replace a 400,000 miles in an 1989 legend I had (still ran, but had a little rod knock and no oil pressure after it warmed up). Anyway, I think the junk yard pressure washed the engine before sending it to me.
