how does that work. obd1 needs three signals from the dizzy not two
The adapter plates we have now could almost certainly be modified to fit that simply by tapping some extra holes.
Technically only two signals would be required for sequential injection and ignition so maybe there is some setting that allows ODB1 to use just the two signals. IDK.
Personally I think the OBD1 guys should stop using these silly distributors and just go to COP.

That's still not really cost effective. Great idea but the plate is still a better set up. realistically we need a combination of them that is a far more cost-effective.
doesnt that have a different gear setup then the A20? I cant remember, it would be an alternative to the poorly rebuilt Hitachi rebuilds available for us carb guys
Gear? You mean the distributor to cam key? I think most of the Honda ones are basically the same.
And if you wanted to use this for a carb setup you would still need some kind of controller to run the advance. For carbs it would be cheaper and better to just switch to EDIS.

You'd need like a 6 inch thick adapter plate to run one of the old distributors...
nice. now i have pondering the idea of a dis system and individual coil packs. i have seen many h22a swapped accords with this. besides a universal flying crank magnet set up or magnet sprocket on the crank pulley, what all would be needed. i know newer honda engines that are dis have a trigger wheel type of gear and also a no.1 cylinder sensor so proper firing can accur. wonder if we could some how graft the important parts to the 3g sensor wise and convert to a dis. i already have the msd-sci on both my cars and there are many add ons available. hhmmmmmmmmm. time to do some homework.......

Sound like it would like nicer then its worth. It sound like it would be easyer to just get the plate. Your gonna end up redoing all the ignition wiring to make this work
The missing piece is a controller that can fire 4 coils sequentially. Actually though it's not really missing, it's called a Megasquirt and has been around a long time.
I setup a sequential COP system with my MS2 in 2010. Normally you would use the MS for fuel injection and ignition but you can use it for ignition only. The best way to run them is with a missing tooth wheel on the crank and a single tooth on the cam, but (in theory at least) you could use the timing and cyl1 signals from the regular A20 fuel injected distributor. I've not heard of anyone actually trying it but that ignition mode is supported.
To do this with OBD1 it would take some serious ECU hacking, or an external box to switch between the coils. I think AEM might have done this already but I can't remember now.
For carb guys, there is also the Megajolt2/MegajoltC which is in beta test right now.

Yeah, I'm still not understanding why you guys are hung up on OBD1 when MS is easier to install on these engines. It's not like learning the wiring is that hard.

I just like the old school look of a dizzy on carbed car, it's an old fart thing, since I found one new in the box, thats been on a shelf since the 80's, I think I'm good to go for a while
With MS, you can use sensors from other vehicles to replace the crummy ones that we have, I mean, they are over 20 years old at this point. You don't have to worry about any dizzy mounting, because an easy to install toothed wheel and pickup are installed at the crank to completely get rid of it. The harness can be pared down more than an OBD1 system, too.
Of course, there's also Tuner Studio's Autotune function. Instead of having to tune the car, it will do a pretty good job with a street tune by itself.
so you're saying it's easier to install a toothed pickup wheel and create a harness for individual coil packs? It seems like about as much work, i guess the payoff is that the MS, like you said, is more customizable than a stock p04 obd1 ecu or p06 chipped to run a better map for the accord. All of it seems like not a lot of work to me but i like this sort of thing. I'd just assume swap a different motor (b20b or b20z or any other already obd1 capable motor) and adapt the harness.

an obd1 swap can be done with junkyard parts too. everything besides the jumper harness.

Actually I think I would say that OBD1 is probably easier to setup than MS because there is less stuff that you have to change. MS is more flexible though so you get more for the extra effort.
What would be cool, is a fully electronic bolt on 'distributor' that has the sensors and electronics built in to run either an EDIS style dual coil for wasted spark or individual coils for full sequential. The only connections to it would be power, vacuum for advance, outputs to the coils, and some kind of communication port for tuning.

I'm kind of on the same page as you, Stat1k. To me, wiring and building harnesses is super simple. Scrapping the old harness solves a lot of issues, too. In my case, several electrical gremlins would be solved with a new harness. It's not as bad as Lucas wiring, but with the amount of repairs that have been done on my wiring harness, starting over with new wire and connectors wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. While I'm in there, why not convert the old sensors to something easy to buy at every parts store, like GM or Ford/Mazda parts, and get rid of everything that isn't needed?
