    AB solo2 car...

So I've previously been very active in the solo2 scene with the SCCA and now after 2 years i'm trying to get back into it... Figured I should start posting in here to try and bring some attention to the "ugly ducklings" of this site, IE the classic preludes! One of the saddest things about guys that race, is that so few of them who are good actually post about there experiences. We'll I'm here to try and get active again, and I want to try and be active in this portion of the forum as well, as I fell that I can help several individuals on this site get into SCCA racing...

here is a little intro video to give you guys an idea of what we are working with

    Re: AB solo2 car...

I love it! I'd love to see some of your results. I haven't autocrossed my Hondas much. But I've had a couple other cars I've done a couple seasons in. But I'm really anxious to get one of them built and ready for some autocross. I'll probably get slaughtered since I'd have to run in some crazy modified class, but it'll mostly be for fun anyways. What class does your car run in? Seems like it doesn't really qualify for stock classes. :P

Definitely going to hit the Autocross track with the Lemons 3gee once it's built and ready and see how it does.

Looks like you did a lot of ass-whooping!

Have you ever seen another 2g Prelude out there? Ever any in stock classes? Been thinking about picking one up, thought it would be fun to throw some Konis or Bilsteins in it, some A6s and see how it does.

    Re: AB solo2 car...

the only 2gens I've ever seen racing were mine... I think it would be a hard car to race in Stock form, considering the other cars in h stock have better wheel sizes... the stock 13x5 wheel leaves you kinda stranded out there... Personally, I think these cars would make awesome STC cars... and really one of the only classes it could be mildly competitive.
    Something like this...
    -Konis/gcs
    -Addco rear sway bar
    -CheddarJ suspension bushings
    -Cygnus motor mounts
-OBX SS remake header, 2.25" full exhaust, Magnaflow highflow cat
-Hawk HPS front pads, Hawk HP+ rear pads...
-Any 15x7" wheel with some 140 treadwear MAX summer tires
    -Anything else for power...

Thats were the tricky part comes in... Si or Base?
Si are fuel injected, and you could tune the motor a little bit, but NO obd1 swap, not legal for scca rules... Would be more reliable and you could potentially make more power...
DX are starting 100+ pounds lighter, and with the 10hp difference between the two motors, its pretty close stock to stock straight line speed wise... Plus, if your crafty you can mod the carbies slightly... and possibly make as much power as the Si with the exception of a decrease in torque... But here is another drawback for the DX, Dx brakes... front and rear, pad limitations... I feel like a good ST car needs great brakes... So yea... Thats what I've been thinking about, I've had the most success in STS (the new STC)

    Re: AB solo2 car...

Can you update/backdate the brakes? What about the wheels? Surey a 2nd gen came with 14" wheels at some point. You can get tires for small wheels, but they are full blown race tires that probably aren't legal in your class.

    Re: AB solo2 car...

the update, back date is tricky... if you read the rules carefully, the car would have to look, smell, drive and be indentical to its counter part. An update back date for a b20a powered prelude would be badass, but it would more than likely be cheaper to import one, rather than to try and completely convert one... you can't just take the stuff you want and the stuff you don't... otherwise you'd see alot more b swapped civics racing in stc or whatever

    Re: AB solo2 car...

So it's legal to run an overseas model? Hmm, that's interesting actually.

I keep forgetting about the wheel size restriction in stock class. That's a pain in the ass.

As far as the brakes go, can't you send in a set of pads, and have them re-line them with whatever pad material you want? I know Carbotech will do it, but not as sure about Hawk. I bet that's the only real brake limitation on the DX.

So i may have found the best compromise... A factory, no a/c base model... May be buying a 3rd prelude

    Re: AB solo2 car...

Ive been poking around in the rule book yesterday, and it turns out that you can you use any braking components that directly bolt on to the factory mounting locations!!! So I may have found something super special!! Here is my to do list for the next year...

Get head repaired and shaved to minimum thickness (300$)
Get a cheap paint job to fix minor body issues (<1000$)
    Full exhaust (header back!!) (<600$)
All new poly and derilin bushings (400$)
    15x7 wheels (I currently have a set of Kosei K1s) (0-900$)
    Badass class specific tires! (600$)
AST 1 way adjustable shocks (custom) (3000$)
Custom Spring rates with perches (thinking my usual 500/600) (400$)
    Addco Rear sway bar (250$)
Poly mounts for stock front Sway bar (<50$)
1st gen integra rotors front with 89 sei accord calipers and hawk hp+ pads (<200$)
Si rear calipers with hp+ pads rear (<150$)
    Goodrich Stainless Steel Lines (100$)
lightwieght seats of some sort (<1000$)
    harness bar (250-400$)
stroke as much power out of the carbed motor (???$)
smaller steering wheel (hate the base model steering wheel) (<500$)
Cygnus x1 motor mounts! (forgot to add)

That totals upwards of 10k on the high end!!! Damn, but the good news is, that what one moton set costs for one of the STC civics thats already running!!! So we ready to do this?

Looks like a sweet build! Does AST build those shocks for you custom order, or do they already have an application for the Prelude?

Its going to be semi custom. EF civic fronts work in the front, custom rears, top hats all custom

So I got my 9" wheels, my 15mm spacers, my 275 hoosier A6s, and my 949 racing lugs/valve stems... The new lower ball joints, new wheel bearings and extended lug studs are all installed... just gotta get my tires mounted on my 9"/8" staggered tire setup!!! I'm super excited!

alright, so it takes a serious amount of fender massaging to get the big ass tires inside the fenders or an 86 prelude with as low as I am... These pictures will more than likely upset several individuals... Lets just call this EXTREME tire clearancing...

Here is a picture from the last race for shits and giggles...

    First the fronts...

Stock look with 15x8 +25 and 205... no Spacers

the same wheels with a 15mm spacer... (keep in mind i'm going to be running a 15x9 and with a 275!!)

    No spacer...

Think thats bad, cutting the fenders then welding in a 2x2" 1/8" steel, wait till the next post...

    More front molestation...

    nice, flat oem fender lip...

completely butt fucked, cut, stretched and flattened fender!

    before...

    after!!!
I think i've got enough clearance for my tires... but the rears? stay tuned...

    now for the rears...

    before...

    after!!

yes, there is a wheel in there!!! lol
Now keep in mind for the rears, all i need to fit is a 15x8 +20mm with only 225 hoosier A6s! whats it look like with the race tires? Stay tuned!!!
