run the car on moonshine... seriously... a carbed car runs cleanest on alcohol... just make sure you are getting enough fuel in there... alcohol burns faster than gas, so watch it...

its probably a bad muffler or a broken flex joint or a dislocated header or even a faulty cat would make u do this. for immediate fix, run on premium (the highest octane on a loacl gas station like 96 octane or something like that) and it should fix ur emission test.

Is your exhaust system in good condition?

The cat is supposed to take care of NOx. They can 'wear out' given enough time. Also, how old is your oxygen sensor?

Smuf, I don't understand why holes in the exhaust (after the cat) would hurt his emissions. Wouldn't it improve the numbers since some of the junk wasn't going into the sniffer?

Thats weird. In Michigan emissions are not a big deal, I have no cat at all, and just bought a high flow mufler. I really never have heard of having to get tested for emissions in MI anyway. I do understand in more populated states (CA,GA,NY) sucks to you guys!

Don't run too much alcohol because you get to much particulates in it, they are noticable in some test because the conduct a known electricle charge (thats how most if not all breathalizers work). Just a little will do when my brothers first car a 1986 dodge aries k didn't pass we used a little rubbing alcohol. You could use everyclear swig for the car and one for you.

hey man... we're in the same boat...haha.. I just went in today and I failed.. Damn GA emmisions .. they use the same test as they did in CA when I was there... dont mess with buying anything else except for a new cat... the MAIN thing that you need to check is your timing... make sure its correct.. I went in and the first thing he said after I failed was did you mess with your timing.. and I was like... umm ya.. well put it back for the test and you should pass... Im going to get the hi-flow cat from nopionline.com just for the hell of it but still.. check your timing man....

mike, thats how my 4g failed emissions. The flex joint was busted and as u know the gas was seepin out, so somehow they know that something is wrong when the stick the needle in the muffler.

also, my dad's 90 camry failed emissions because the header bots came loose.
