    Question 215/40/17 ok?????

I got this set of 17" rims with 205/40/17 Kuhmo tires. The rims sticks out a little bit and I was wondering if I'd be alright with some 215 tires. Here is a pic of what the rim looks like:

Depends on a couple of things
    1) what is the offset of the rim? Maybe Jay knows. if its 38mm or 40mm then No, I wouldnt get a 215. If it is 42 or 45mm then you can.

    BUT!!

    2) How low do you want to lower your car? That all plays a role. too low and you will rub everywhere.

Oh kay just did some research for you. The rims are 40mm offset. I went to whalentire to find out. BTW they sell your setup for $732
    http://www.whalentire.com/wheeldetai...D0440S&size=17

And the other bit or research is I remembered that jigga225 is running 215/40-17. He rolled his rear fenders and here's the catch he's running 42mm offset and I'm pretty sure he has since said that he has rubbing problems. But I could be wrong about the rubbing. Pm him and ask him if, since he rolled his fenders if he ever has rubbing problems. At best it's very iffy, that you'll be able to run that size with 40mm offset. 215/40's are about 1/4" taller and 1/2" wider than 205/40's, both those facts work against you

OH,... I can save you from writting a pm, no you can't run 215/40-17, they will rub. found this post by jason (jigga225)

If you had 45mm offset, that might work.

"my rimz are 42mm offset. 17x7.5 Helo Lotus.
Cant slam it like I want rims and tires a lil too wide"

look at my sig pic.. I'm not rubbin anything at that height..
but if you want to go lower than THAT... youre gonna have some problems cause those tires are a lil wide (I dont know bout you but my rims are 7.5" wide)
Jim put it pretty well tho.
but youre cool wit the 215's man....
I got a big box in the trunk, but if you dont ride rear passengers that much you dont have nothin to worry about.
I know when I get more tires....I'm goin back 215/40/17.
and Im not raisin the car up. Gotta stay loww

But, you've got 2mm of extra clearance that he doesn't have since his rims are 40mm offset. (thanks for replying jason).

Danm, that's some good info. Thanks guys.

I wanna lower my car but I have no idea how low. I've never done this before, so this is all new to me. As you can see on the pic, the front is lower than the rear. How low should I go?

the front of the car looks lower than normal already.
With my car, I liked it with a little less than two of my fingers gap all the way around, I dont have any problems that way....
but Like jim said I'm not SURE if yours would rub that low or not.
I think if you got the sprint 2.25" springs you would be good, and it would look tight

That's how low its in the front. The rear, I didnt touch because I also have a subwoofer box with two 12" MTX's, 500 watts each and that's pretty heavy.

You'll have to be the one to deside how low to go. Everyone has a different opinion on what looks right. The best thing I can say is to look at as many pics of lowered 3g's and pm the owners of the one's you like and see what they used to drop the car. Keep in mind that not all lowering springs offer stiff rear springs, if you've got heavy stuff in the trunk, you especially wounldn't want weak rear springs rates. The sprints are popular, but a few people with them have noticed that their front ends ride higher than the rear end, their not happy with that. Though their is a $70 fix to the problem. And you'll want strut's that and deal with stiffer lowering springs, that'll keep the ride quality closer to stock, even though it will ride firmer no matter what.

All the web sites I went to that carried those rims listed them as 40mm offset. The manufactuer's web site doesn't say what any of their rims are. And if I recall all the rim's in their entire line are 40mm offset, I know the 15's from maxxim I have are 40mm offset. Are they stamped as 42mm, or did they people that sold them to you tell you they were 42mm? The thing about rubbing is maurice was asking about being able to run 215mm tire's, not the 205's that are on their right now. As we both know, 205's and 40mm or 42mm offset's, won't rub. :super:

    [*edit*] update
I went to maxxim's web site and used the application guide, their they do show the offset's for all the rims, including the konig line. The defcon's are 40mm offset for all size's.

    http://www.tiredex.com/konig/app_gui...ivic&B1=Submit
Their about 3/4 the way down the page.
