Wheel Offset Question!

Hey guys. My friend just picked up an 89 Accord LXi Hatch. He used to drive an 84 Supra. Anyway, he wants to know if there is some kind of adapter to make the supra wheels fit since the offset is the same. They are both 4 lug though.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

This web site that deal's with the 82-85 celica/supra say's that factory supra rims are 8mm offset, which I know is true since those car's are RWD and their rims stick out from the hubs quite a bit. (The 86-90 celica's went to a fwd chassis and may use rims simular to ours.) You cannot fix this in anyway, those rims are not useable. Using a spacer would only make the problem worse by moving the tire in further away from the hubs towards the fender lips even more. And with them being 7" wide, it would make a 195/60-14, look kinda funky when mounted, IMO.

Thanks dude, that solves that question.

He was gonna use the 225 width tires that were on those rims anyway. An accord with 225 would probably be sweet if it didnt stick out too much.

Your welcome, I'm positive that 225 will flat out not fit in the back, even with the best possible offset for wide tires, 45mm and even with the rear fender's rolled. And in the front I'd worry about the tire clearing the bottom of the strut/spring perch.
I think I've heard of someone running 225 in the front and something narrower in the rear, but I just don't see 45mm offset and 225 being possible, even 40mm offset and 225 I doubt.

So whats the widest tire you can put on the stock rims and what profile should he get to keep the speedo on?

Well I just did some reasearch and the they don't offer 205/55-14 tires in anything other than autocrossing tires (with 50 tread wear ratings) and I tried 215/50 and even 205/50, none, no tires in those sizes.

But you can get 205/60-14, but their are a full inch taller so the speedo will be off and that extra tire height presents clearance problems. I will say that they just might work, I'd find that size at a used tire shop and pay $5 to have it mounted to check clearance's

Sorry Jim, but 205-60-14 isn't an inch taller than 195-60-14
205-195=10 mm
.6*10*2=12mm = 1/2" ish (25.4mm = 1 in)

My Accord had 205-60-14s when I got it and I went ahead and stayed with it. I drive highway so much I figured I could give up the little bit of torque for the better mileage and longer treadwear. I've checked and my odometer is stillc orrect (verfied by GPS) and my speedometer still reads high.

Na don't be sorry for being right I know what I did wrong, I glanced at 15" instead of 14's. Your right they are 1/2" taller.
