Don't know where to start

Hey I own a 1987 Honda accord dx. Just recently my motor just went poop and started leaking oil all over the place. I have decided that this is a good opportunity to start my plan of making this car a sleeper of some sorts. It has an automatic transmission and a carbed engine. I want to change it to a manual transmission and swap the engine with a fuel injected one. But my question is what motor and transmission should I look into and how would i go into installing it. I'm not worried about how long it will take. i just want to do it the right way the first time.
I need your guys words of wisdom.

Really depends on your budget. B-swap will be on the high end, or you could put the A20 from the fuel injected LX-i. Both will require you to convert the car to fuel injection. You could build a carb motor, and swap in a 5speed to make it a little quicker.

Well what motor can I put in my accord that would be better than the LX-i but doesn't cost a fortune?

B-swap will run you about $3000 and up depending on how much work you can do yourself, and what motor you choose. Upgrading to an LXi motor all depends on how you do it, and where you get the parts. You could just get the parts to convert you carb motor to fuel injected and rebuild the carb motor. Or you could get an entire fuel injected motor and all parts to make the car fuel injected. The only other option is a very rare b20 from the JDM/edm 3rd gen accord. Everything else will be custom, and cost you more. There is an entire section devoted to swaps, read through and get a feel for it.
