Constantly replacing drivers side CV axle.

What the heck causes only one sides CV axle to go bad prematurely? My driver side only lasted 8 months, when i replaced it back in mid July. It's popping so bad now and is bad, yet again, Extremely Prematurely. What the hell causes this? I'm tired of forking over cash for axles that are supposed to be "Built to last years."

-All motor mounts are new, except M/T center bushing, which i'm replacing tomorrow morning. That bushing is now shaped like a twinkie.
-Passenger side CV axle is 2-3 years old, and is showing no sign of wear or tear.
-I do have a Prelude Si A2K5 M/T...Should i run Prelude Si Axles on the drivers side only? I thought they were the same housing but different gears...Maybe i'm wrong?
-New wheel bearings on the front.

    I'm so lost.

Are the splines shorter on the non OEM CV axle? Or shorter on the Accord CV axle vs Prelude CV Axles? I do need to replace the radius rod bushing. Just can't find a suitable replacement that's poly...

Hmm. I have not had problems with their parts, but with the cheap China made junk that has invaded the auto aftermarket - anything is possible. First step might be to ask them...

I assume the boots are intact - but the joint is noisy?

Does the car drive ok - any vibration issues?

On a level lot - do a ride height check and make sure the car doesn't droop at the left front (indicating a possible damaged strut/spring).

I would also - during your next replacement - go over that side thouroughly and check:

    Radius rod bushings
    upper and lower arm bushings
    upper and lower ball joints
spin the wheel bearing and check for excess play
before removing the shaft check the Tranny end for play/wobble.

BE extra sure not to "stretch" the new shaft any during install - it is easy to do by accident and that can damage the internal component alignments and the grease distribution resulting in a shorter (inner joint) life. While it does change length as the supension flexes - it does not move much.

Try teh prothane 8-1201 (red) and 8-1201-BL (black) strut rod bushing kit. It is also for the 88-91 Civic/CRX.

Good call. I hadn't thought of that, but it's a real likelihood. If you use the axle shaft as a battering ram to seat the inner CV joint, it can cause some problems.

I replaced the drivers side CV axle, but there is still something that needs replaced. Pretty sure its strut rod bushings. :-\
