This hasnt happened yet. Im going to remove my cat, and then have a guy weld a pipe in its place. This will cost $30-35.
Is that too expensive? Will I see any performance gains?
And no, we dont have inspections![]()

Performance Modz: Short Ram Air Intake, Custom Exhaust w/o Cat & Resonator, Cherry Bomb Turbo Muffler, Accel Coil, Removed AC
Other Modz: Clear Blinkers, Purple Calipers, Accord Emblem On Dash, Winking Headlights
sounds good to me. Good luck with your noisy car.![]()
Noise=Funny
Will I gain any HP or torque() though? Or will i just have more noise, illegal car, and a better flaming exhaust?
Either way is cool

You might see a gain but it is more likely you will see one with a nice catback. You also might want to get an estimate on one from the guy giving you the pipe.
How much of a gain? Just a few ponies and a few decibles?
Is that a good price?

A few ponies and yea that is a good price.
with a stock muffler don't expect the exhaust noise to raise that much. you still have the resonator and small diameter pipe.
30 bucks is good for the material and installation.

i am gonna get rid off the cat too, but i am just gonna bash out the guts inside. i am gonna leave it in case inspection guy wants to check the muffler.
Alex.
I would rather touch a dog turd than the stuff inside the cat. It is amazingly toxic.
I would fix the outside of your car BEFORE touching anything underneath it. Making it louder is only going to make it that much worse...then people will really think your driving a beater.
Nate.
....Are you saying my car looks like shit?
hehehe, It kinda does i guess. Im in the process of bondo'ing the hell outta her, then in a month, when i have the cash shes gettin painted... I dont know why, cause the primer matches my paint...
I think though when people see/hear a loud honda, they automatically think FnF

Thats why you dont give kids access to a vinyl shop, maaco and a can of spray paint.
Nate.
I Did that with my Accord, sept I welded a pipe from where the catalayic converter is all the way to the muffler, its louder then fuck but it sounds high performance, I didn't get any performance gains, just smoother RPM's, Nice deap throaty sound commin from the exhaust, not that farter sound either. My engine sounded all torqued out before the engine blew up, Cold Air Intake, 2 1/2" pipe from the cat to the muffler. Higher RPM's I dont know are better for the car or worse.
i took my cat off when i put on my header... me and my buddy didnt wanna mess with the bolts cause they were so f'ed up... we were just like screw it and hacked it off and ran a piece of pipe from the header back to the cat back piping... its not even that loud when im cruisin... but man its loud when im on it, i like it tho... it works well with the header, cat-back, and stainless muffler

The stuff in a catylitic converter are toxic? Just wondering b/c I wanted to have the shell of a converter just in case. What would be better a hi-flo cat or straight pipe?
I have a strait through pipe and did notice some higher hp gains, but I also noticed quite a bit of a loss in torque. I am judging this on the fact that before the removal of the cat, I could peel some pretty good rubber in 1st gear and usually chirp pretty well in 2nd. Although since getting my header, I have noticed I got torque back. Anyone else feel the same way?
Yea that stuff is damn toxic it is radioactiveOriginally posted by Mike's89AccordLX

Radioactive?![]()
Mike
Most modern cars are equipped with three-way catalytic converters. "Three-way" refers to the three regulated emissions it helps to reduce -- carbon monoxide, VOCs and NOx molecules. The converter uses two different types of catalysts, a reduction catalyst and an oxidization catalyst. Both types consist of a ceramic structure coated with a metal catalyst, usually platinum, rhodium and/or palladium.

Hm those seem like radioactive elements to me.
Ahh... Thank god we don't have catalytic converters in our cars down here![]()
Eibach springs, 16 TSW EVO-R's etc..
As I hear it, a high flow cat is just as good as no cat. The stuff inside the cat is quite toxic, so if you do decide to hollow it out yourself, wear gloves and a mask. And if you do hollow it, maybe you can use the platinum to make chains with diamonds in them, j/k.
