    Performance on a budget!

Ok...I'll have about $2500 to spend on my all stock DX this spring. I'm looking to get a manual steering box to replace my PS, get lowered about 1.5" and some cheap 16" rims, rear disks from an SE-i, and then a CF hood. I will also get my whole engine polished and ported, and hopefully some DCOE's to replace my crappy Keihin carb. I am just asking as to what people expect prices on all this to be...I hope I don't go over $2500 but if I do, it won't be the end of the world.

    Manual Steering -- $75
    Lowering (Springs/Shocks) -- $400
    Cheap rims + tires -- $600
    SE-i brakes + rotor/pad upgrade -- $400
    Engine work + gaskets -- $300
    CF Hood -- $500
    DCOE's -- $250 manifold $150 carbs

    Do these numbers seem right?

I'm not looking for a dragster...just a good car to do some SCCA style races, and streetability.
Good bye to the 1989 DX Type R. Hello 2001 LX.

seems good except for the shox and springs... KONI's are 424 with no shippin price at www.shox.com

and springs are available from 100 to 350 depending on whatr you want... i would sugest ground control coilovers. they are real sweet.

your rims and tires will probably come to more than that, even cheap used rims. if you are gonna do all that work you should spend a little money on tires. and i don't know what that kind of engine work costs, but $300 might be low.

    Hmm, let's see
    $212 front Koni's $110 rear Tokico's $130 Neuspeed springs
='s $452 If you don't have at least the Koni's in the front your competitiveness will suffer in SCCA style races.

What do you have in mind for rims and tires, Size? 15" I'm sure right?

Is your disk brake upgrade mean moving up to the larger rotor's of the LXI/SEI in the front? I'd recommend slotted/dimpled brembo's for the front, $100 for the pair.

Curious, what engine work are you thinking about?
H&R springs revalved Bilstein front struts, koni struts in the rear 195/55-15 Dunlop W-10's Dc Sports header custom cat-back with Dynomax super turbo w/3" Brembo slotted & dimpled rotor's EBC pads
Well, that's what I used to have, wrecked, 7/3/02.

Ok a thought on rims and tires. Used 99-2001 civic SI rims or integra GSR rims 94-95 $300 tops. Get Falken Azenis sport tires 205/50-15 $65 per tire or $260 for 4. ='s $560 total, less if you can get the rims cheaper.

Ok, I wanted Koni's in the front...and yeah, some used SI rims or GSR rims or Spoon knock-offs. Hopefully 16" but if not, then I'll go with 15". Um, I just need all the gaskets replaced, and im going to have the block polished a bit, just so it's smooth and stuff...as well as the head.

Yes, im going to upgrade to the SE-i front rotors, with the slotted ones from Brembo, and EBC pads.

Site, what kind of price can you get for a DCOE manifold?

The front rotors and pads will cost you about $150. So that's $250 left to get the SEi brake assembly. I don't think that's enough. If I remembered correctly, just for the rear it's $350 that doesn't include MC.
For the suspension, expect to pay more.
And I think the engine work for $300 is too modest (not sure though).
    Well, good luck

    Suspension:
Well if he needs to spend more here's some receipes.

    phase1
front konis rear tokico's neuspeeds or h&r springs

    phase2
same as phase1 add rear suspension techniques sway bar. Convert stock front bar to urathane bushings (I have a hard time telling someone to get the S/T front bar since it's only 1/16" thicker than stock, you can be the judge if $100 is worth it for 1/16"). Nopi should have lowerst price on S/T sway bars

    phase3
Ground control coilovers dialed into 1.5" drop Koni struts front and rear Rear S/T sway bar and convert stock front bar to urathane bushings

    Phase3a
DropZone coilovers $99 with Pair of 250lbs springs purchased seperately $99 (this creates a coilover system with spring rates equal to ground-control coilovers) Konis front and rear S/T rear bar and convert stock front bar to urathane bushings

Phase4 Ground control coilovers with custom spring rates 400lbs front and 300lbs in the rear. Revalved Bilsteins H.D. struts to match spring rates. Custom copies of front and rear sway bars from sanner prefab 1 1/16" front 7/8" rear (vs stock f7/8" r1/2")
Front Radius Rod Bearings from opmmotorsports

    Just a thought

Yeah, that sounds good. I'm just getting some prices here, so I know what to expect later.

    Thanks for the info!

Buy a 95 prelude engine and put it in your accord. Then you'll be able to run about 11.3 in the 1/4 mile!!!!!!

Why spend $500 on a carbon fiber hood if you're going for perfromance? The small weight savings is probably not worth the cost. On the other hand, if you're doing it for looks then it makes sense...if you're into that kind of thing.

Well, my stock hood is like the lunar surface, so I figured I might as well go for it while I have the chance.

I would get a CF hood... then cut a hole for a CF scoop... like from a Subaru WRX.

Be carefull about the lure of free shipping. Some of their so called deals aren't. Some stuff can be had else where for less, even figuring the shipping in. www.whalentire.com can have lower prices on certain things that they both carry, even when you add in the shipping. Shop around and compair prices, that's all.
