rumbling sound

lately i've been hearing a rumbling sound coming from the left front wheel. kinda like....rum rum rum rum rum rum rum rum...as the wheel spins. i dont feel any vibration, and the tire pressure is fine, if that means anything. i dont think its the cv boots/joints, cuz thats more of a clicking sound, and i dont hear and noises when i turn other than the steering gear and struts squeaking

anyways, i was thinking maybe wheel bearings. i dont really have a good level parking lot where i can jack the car up and see if theres any play in the bearings, so i havent checked it yet. anyone have any thoughts?

Do you have the shims in your brake pads? And are they Honda pads or aftermarket? I went through this with mine with my old aftermarket pads without the shims, and even without using the brakes at all, driving slow through parking lots and whatnot I'd hear a rubbing type sound with small pauses in between -- rub --- rub --- rub...etc (like it was 1 spot on the rotor each time it went around). Haven't heard it once since with the Honda pads I put on. Wheel bearings were also fine so I knew it wasn't those.

Other than that, wheel bearings are the only other thing I can think of

check your splash guars ! could be touching the discs !
does the sound increase with speed ! if yes ! si it's propably wheel bearing !

Jack it up from the front lift points so the tire is up in the air. Move the rims assy. left and right, and if there is play. Bearings are gone. And if there is play, the brake pads are going to wear down like there is no tomorrow.

Make sure your tires are good and not out of round. If you have crappy struts and your tires develop a ripple, they will definitely create a rumbling sound. I've seen it on many cars.

It could be bearings. First, I would put my tires to proper inflation specs (26-28psi is good) then check for ripple by stroking my hand around the diameter.

Then I'd put it in neutral up in the air and see if the wheel spins freely or locks up. If it has too much scuff&resistance, it could be your caliper sticking.

Definitely check for holes in your CV boot!!!

Also check to see that your back plate isn't touching your rotor. Listen to hear if there is a scuff noise when you spin the wheel by hand in the air.

If it's none of that shit, I'd say probably bearings. But listen really carefully and pinpoint the wheel that's making the noise.

I've done stupid shit like changing a ball joint that I thought was going bad when it was really the ball joint on the other side going bad, and then I gotta do the other side too.

hmmm... I did not know that would eat through pads. It all seems to be adding up now. First with the 15's on and stock DX brakes, I was warping rotors like no tomorrow. Then with LXi upgrade, it was gone. But then with the 17's on, the fucker shook like no tomorrow when just driving. Coincidence: ?? I'm beginning to think NO. Hmm.....

Yea, if there so much play, the rotor starts banging against the pads.
